PS3 Firmware 2.50

Looks minor, and is it even worthwhile?? I hope there are more pieces:

The playback quality of some PS3 format software has been improved.
A text entry issue that occurs when using the on-screen keyboard, USB keyboard or Bluetooth keyboard with some PS3 format software has been addressed.

Your next patsu. What else ya got?

Nope. Nothing to say. I upgraded and went into R2 right away. It's probably a minor fix for 2.50. deepbrown's virtual keyboard issue is likely fixed in this release.

Actually yesterday I noticed that my trophies for Super Stardust had vanished. Anybody else experienced something like that?

And yeah, the keyboard lag issue was complained about in LittleBigPlanet a lot I think on Gaf, so that's probably the main issue.

Trophy loading screen has been fast enough for me typically though.

What do they mean with "PS3 format software" ? Maybe it is because English isn't my mother tongue but that description seems quite ambiguous.

The latest PS3 firmware 2.52 includes an improvement to the playback quality of PS3 games, as it did in the past a couple of times. Has anyone made an effort to see which titles if any are visibly affected? Dare I say, maybe Fallout 3?

According to here...

[RockBand]
- Multiple microphones usage has been enabled.

[MotorStorm]
- "Previous/Next" operation in BGM function freezing issue fixed.

[OSK/USB keyboard text input]
- Opening/closing OSK function now stable.
- Prediction & conversion function issue has been resolved.

- PAL (50Hz) output of 59.94Hz content enabled.
(if an NTSC TV is used, no problem can be found)

Actually, I did think that there were some issues with using custom music from the XMB in Motorstorm. I had two freezes in the game was after I started using in-game XMB, so I stopped using it to see if that was the issue, and I haven't had any more issues. If 2.52 fixes that, great - I'll definitely test it again now. :)

What's this about multiple microphones usage in Rockband though? Is that support for (Either of the two?) Singstar microphones? Or something else?

Confirmed, the issue with Motorstorm 2 locking up when playing custom soundtracks is gone now ... :) Me happy.

Video on PSP Ad-hoc Party service in Japan: http://www.jp.playstation.com/ps3/psn/adhocparty.html

Only usable by Monster Hunter Portable and MHP 2nd G.
Originally scheduled to launch on 30th Oct, it's now delayed to early November.

SCEJ launched PSP Ad-hoc Party. It's available for download on the Japan PSN. Someone made a tutorial video about it:

GAF has an on-going thread to shortlist which PSP game work/doesn't work in adhoc network mode.

Working:

MHP2G
Gundam Battle Universe
Phantasy Star Portable
Macross Ace Frontier
Gundam SEED Federation vs ZAFT
DQ and FF in Itadaki Street
Rengoku 2
Dragonball Z Shin Budokai 2
Ace Combat X
Street Fighter Zero 3
Ridge Racers 2 (there are problems being reported even though it runs)
Power Pro Baseball Portable 3
Tekken DR
Musou Orochi
YugiohTF 2
Dracula X Chronicles
Shoten Beat
KoF (US)
Mahjong Fight Club
Wipeout Pulse
Coded Arms
Capcom Classics Final Fight (US)
FFT

Not Working:

Capcom Classics
fl0w
Lumines 2 (disconnects when reading skin)
Valhalla Knights 2 (Versus works, it disconnects randomly when playing co-op)
Lost Regnum (disconnects when you enter a dungeon)

Your PS3 (acting as server/proxy) needs to be on wired connection though (because the wireless part is used for PSP connectivity). Seems like a severe restriction.

For PS3 on wireless, Fafalada mentioned another approach here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=13525168&postcount=53
I don't think it's equivalent though. Hopefully he can comment more.

Apparently it now has full screen flash support and some extra stuff in the power saving options.

One rumour site suggests there's something in the firmware that makes LBP run better too.

Does anyone know if it fixes the problems PS3's have with Google Video?

Haven't checked Google Video yet, but Youtube runs in widescreen, fullscreen and at high quality video settings, and especially the latter makes me really happy, as it makes a rather big difference on the big screen! :D

That said, the browser does seem to be a tiny bit less stable now. I had one out of memory error on Eurogamer's embedded video (but at least it ran a fair bit and it was a long video, the singstar one) and I've had one crash after I tried to switch back to beyond3d after having watched a bunch of youtube videos at high quality in full screen (among which hotforwords ... wtf! lol!).

Really? I was reading on Neogaf that some people have issues with Youtube.

If possible can somebody check this video : http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-594683847743189197

Another 2 hours until I go home and I'm already full of questions lol.

Nope, that one doesn't seem to work. I only get sound. I tried some other videos and the video chat thingy and those seemed to work (though I didn't log in) but not this video. There are even some videos I have trouble with on various PC browsers though so I doubt all videos will always work ever, but we're certainly seeing progress.

Some Youtube videos work but some don't. I don't know what're the differences between these videos. If it works, it will play in window mode or full screen. Otherwise, it's just a black screen/window with audio.

For the new RTMP feature, check out yahoo movies. Not that it makes a difference for end users though.

For the Youtube videos I have come across that didn't work, there was usually a "high resolution" version available. Viewing that version I was able to get picture and sound. I will have to research further.

Oh, can we change the thread title to just PS3 Firmware Thread or something like that? Everytime I see the thread name I briefly argue what update just went up :p
