PS3 Extras : Are devs using them?

We'd probably only need whatever the minimum the TRC says we can expect is - we might not be allowed to assume we can have the whole HDD to ourselves!

I could imagine that the PSThree might have a minimal amount of solid-state, and provide an external interface for hooking up something bigger - maybe with a drive housing as an add-on peripheral.

Or alternatively, maybe it would still be ok for it to be large enough to contain a 2.5" drive anyway.. it's not like they're enormous...

I can't believe we're talking about PSThree already!
I think that the only reason for both PS3 and XBox360 use 2.5" drives is for their future slim versions.

Why don't they use 3.5" now then, far cheaper (unless Wavey is right that there's a falvour of cheap 2.5" now that's not notebook/transportable friendly), and only switch to 2.5" on the downsize?

Too bad those drives will cost more than even a PS3 when they come out.

Beyond certain size, Memory sticks are certainly prized more than HDD. However what is the cost of making them ?

Come to think of it... a few years into PS3's lifecycle, the volume of low capacity HDD will drop (and hence more expensive ?). So Sony may (i) up the minimum drive specs, or (ii) replace it with other cheaper technologies (Solid state memory/disk will follow similar up trend as HDD in terms of size increment).
