PS3 Demos

Can somebody post more detailed impressions of the PS3 version of the Fifa08 demo? such as how stable the framerate is during gameplay, how good the AI is (I read in the preview on IGN that it had some ways to go when they last saw it), how the interface is, and how much fun it is. If Be A Pro is in the demo, impressions of that as well.

The reason I ask is because I'm away from home for a while so I can't try it myself. As well, I'm seriously considering getting this over PES2008 this year because I think this year the gameplay of FIFA has caught up enough to, when combined with the licenses, be better value to me than PES.

so far the consensus is that neither the PS3 nor 360 versions are as up to snuff as Ea's other more recent titles... (nor PES) frame rate and control issues allegedly.

here's a thread on it with varying opinions on both versions

I quickly tried PixelJunk Racers and wow, that's really too simplistic for me. I'd have loved more Super Sprint like racing, but not this. Shame. I'd love a hi-def version of Micro Machines v3 though. :)

Thanks, I hoped for Bayern or France. I`m not really interested in buying the game but I will try the demo just to play Franck Ribéry.

I played NHL 08 demo on the PS3 just now...it looks okay, but the framerate noticably chugs in the "cinematic" scenes (closeup on players).

There's a good enough number of demos out now.

It's like having a variety of tapas instead of a 4 course meal.

Best part of the FIFA demo is the playable loading screen. Way more enjoyable than the game itself for me. I can't get enough of it. If the full game has some sort of game mode that kind of fleshes out that concept I will buy it.

The actual game itself has frame rate problems and the graphics don't look good when the characters are LODed down real small.

As for the Tony Hawk demo. I am a huge Tony Hawk 3 and 4 fan. I really had high hopes for really advancing the franchise. Sadly the graphics are just awful. Aliasing is everywhere, and the animation still looks last gen.

I'm starting to see a pattern here ... all the EA games have pretty good framerates actually during gameplay. But each and every one of them have framerate issues in the non-gameplay / replay sections. Not to mention that the games look pretty good in gameplay, but not at all that good in the replay sections.

I like the 'loading screen' on FIFA too. It's the same with NBA.

Demos are piling on pretty good now ... !

I was thinking of making the same observation. But then I realised the three I got this week (Fifa, Harry Potter and NBA) were all from EA. So I'm cautiously optimistic that the upsurge will continue but I won't be surprised if it's sputters a bit longer.

I had a few posts about the differences between the 360 and PS3 demo version of Stranglehold. It seems that they were deleted. Could a mod comment on their deletion?
I 'd really like to know the reason.
I hope I'm not looking for them in the wrong thread...

Mod's Reply : This thread has to be limited to notice of the demos available on PS3. If people discuss here every game that gets mentioned, this thread will become a single compressed mass of what the entire games forum is for! Talk about each game in its own game thread.
Comparisons are okay if you're sensible about it and are being constructive. If you want to do comparisons between platforms, just observe the differences in software. We won't let the talk roll into mindless banter about which platform is better or not, or how lazy developers are at ports etc. As comparison threads normally degenerate quickly though, they tend to get pruned early.

Edit
Thanks for replying.
You are right. It was the wrong thread to compare the two demos or even mention their engine...
And although my intention was to simply say my oppinion on the particular game, it could degenerate into mindless banter.
Now, having said that, how was I supposed, not to do it again? I think that the deletion of a post should come with a comment... Otherwise noone will know what went wrong.
IMO a PM should be enough.

New demos up ont the US PSN Store:

• Skate (very eager to try this one!:))
• NBA 08
• Sega Rally Revo
• Stuntman: Ignition

Id like a Lair demo, and Warhawk demo still. Ive already rented Lair.. but want to play some more, until I buy it. Really want to try warhawk, not sure how an online only demo would work.

Not interested in any of these demos today, but Ill try them all anyways.

thanks, updated.

im interested in skate and Sega Rally personally. kind of wish we got the NBA 2k8 demo rather than the always mediocre NBA games by Sony.

It's not quite a demo but Loco Roco Cocoreccho is on PSN now (euro 2.99), at least in Europe.

maybe ill turn this into a demo/psn downloadable games thread if i have some time. or if someone wants to help me out and list the PSN games, that'd be great. ;)

wasn't very impressed with the Rally demo. i think DiRT looks and plays better (meaning the controls, not the framerate, both have pretty solid framerates). it just felt like you were gliding too much and its too much of an arcade racer if that makes any sense. one thing i liked about the visuals over DiRT was there is less aliasing. but for arcade rally racers, i still think MotorStorm is king. it doesn't feel like you're gliding around corners, it actually feels like you're driving through dirt and/or mud. in Dirt/Sega Rally, it almost feels like playing RR7.

exactly

it's supposed to feel like RR7. It is pure arcade racing... I am having more fun with the SR Revo demo than with DiRT when I owned it for a month or two. :p

oh and trust me.... rumble in the controller makes a difference going through the deformed mud.... upcoming ShockAxis for the win. :)
