PS3 Demos

Hey has anyone else found that you can't download in background any more?

I try to push X when Perform in Background is highlighted but then it says content must be installed before you can download in the background?

And O will prompt you to cancel the download.

It used to work, when they first enabled background downloading.

Not sure when it stopped working.

Works fine for me. Except for themes, which never worked w/ BG downloading.

Downloaded a bunch of stuff last night, everything worked fine in the background except themes, which didn't work the last time I downloaded one either.

Do you have alot of content downloaded that you havent installed yet? Or is there alot of stuff already in the download queue?

Seems that the fonts will be readable this time around! It's still tailored for both widescreen and 4:3 screens... I think they should give the user a choice about that.

It seems no longer to be running in the webbrowser, which would mean it's probably faster?

I'm not excited by the looks to be honest, but I'm guessing it'll be better. Not excited though, it doesn't look nearly as nice as SingStar, which I was hoping for.

I suppose though it will look more in line with the look of Home?

Despite not being very familiar with the Singstore interface I had a feeling the PSN revamp wouldn't be anything like it (there was some/lots of speculation on GAF that it would be). Shame I suppose as the SS one is very nice from what I can tell from Youtube clips.

I see tabs named Videos - no doubt game videos. But Other Media... mental block. Can't think what that could be. I'm hoping it'll one day link into the rumoured Connect muzak/video store.

I am more interested in its control scheme (e.g., quick keys to do common functions, possibly SIXAXIS-aware) and speed.

The look is clean enough. SingStore-like animation, multitasking with XMB background music, and in-game access with customized look (like SingStore ?) would be nice too. We shall see.

Themes, wallpapers and pics. It would be nice if Sony rolled out an actually media service (heck, it's one of the whole points if creating a PlayStation and wanting to own the living room and sticking an HDD in their expensive box!), but that's not the only explanation for this menu option.

FW 2.30 is a pretty large jump from 2.20. I wonder what else will be added? 2.4 should have in-game communication, so, that's not it.

Well there could be more, but replacing the whole store by completely new code to me sounds like enough justification for a 0.1 version jump to me.

I saw this by a Harmonix dev on the Rock Band forum:

Due to work Sony is doing on their store they won't be adding new material for a couple weeks so this won't release on PlayStation Store this week. When they go back up with new material in a few weeks, though, it will be there lovingly waiting for you. For free. I'll post something up here when it is available on that platform.

http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40092

That sounds like we won't be getting ANY new content, and not just Rock Band related. Rather disappointing if a store front update is going to hold up new content for weeks.

Here's a few comments and replies from the PS Blog that I found interesting:

I know this is kind of stupid to complain about, but I think the store color should be red…instead of that boring blue color.

There are no stupid questions.
There is actually a reason why blue was chosen over red, or other colours.
Without getting too technical, the frequency at which TVs produce blue light causes less shimmer in televisions.
Red tends to have the most and red images tend to “bleed” and cause other problems.
Greens are a bit tricky and can cause navigational problems with some people who have one of the many different forms of colour-blindness.
Those are some of the reasons why blue was chosen. That, and blue has become associated with the PlayStation branding since the PS2 era.
See - no stupid questions; only lengthy answers!

This is nice. I can’t wait for a new look. Have you folks thought about having a dynamic colour scheme? You know with the border changing colour every time you log into it. Can’t wait and just in time for Broken Mirror! YIPPEEEE!!

You’ll see some dynamic changes each time you log in to the new Store, but the background will not change…for now.
Hope this helps answer your question!

Excellent job on the design. I really love the way it’s set up and how everything is easily accessible through the additional content categories. I take it the interface is navigated entirely with the controller buttons rather than the faux mouse pointer that the current store design uses?
It really looks great.

Very observant.
That’s correct - the new Store will be mouse free, so it’ll be like clicking through a menu rather than looking at a web page.
One of the many great advantages of leaving behind an web-based Store.

Sony said, content on PSN won't be updated for 2 weeks. Dunno that it's that bad. It's only one week longer than usual, and, certainly in the UK, updates don't seem to be particularly exciting ;) Demo's are so short as to be pointless IMO, that I've lost interest in an hours download for 5 minutes of game that reveals next to nothing.

Hey, 2 weeks is 2 weeks. What could possibly take that long to update? Geez, I guess I am going to have to play all the downloaded songs for Rock Band I haven't played yet! ;)

Yap ! 2 weeks :D
GT5:p is the only PSN game I am waiting for.

Before the 2 week are over, we will have firmware 2.30.

2.40 is the version with in-game XMB ;-)
