It's not that bad. I ordered it for a bedroom blu-ray player, it came to $445 after tax and shipping. I'm gonna sell the 6 movies on ebay for $15 each (dont want any of them), and sell the game for $50. Thats $140 recouped right there, brings it down to $305 net for the PS3 with the remote (which is a must in my opinion!). $305 for a movie player of the caliber of the PS3 is a pretty good deal! Plus I just sold my old upconverting dvd player for $60, so that makes it a $245 "upgrade".
I didnt say it was bad, just not as good as it looks. 399 for a PS3 and a free game of choice looks nice, but 440 or 450 doesnt. Finding a new game or one released within the last few months to a year ago for 30-50 is far from an impossible task. Good luck selling the movies as well, you're not the first person to have that idea, so most wont sell for that much (unless you count s&h in that $15 price) when you actually get them. From what i understand it takes a month or two. Problably the latter during the holiday season and all, im sure they'll be flooded with requests by happy people on christmas with their new consoles
. The other problem you have to remember is the fact that the deal has been active for so long that recent Blu-Ray player purchasers that want the movies you're going to sell, problably already have them or are waiting on them through the very same offer. And the videophiles that own players prior to it problably dont care about saving a few dollars on an online auction.
Given a choice of buying it from a retail outlet (meaning you were going to pay tax anyway), this is one of the better deals. But from the point of view of a money pinching consumer, this isnt exactly mind blowing. As i said any day, any time, a PS3 can be had without shipping and tax on sites like Amazon. The need or want of the remote itself would justify the sale in my opinion. If you were going to pay for it anyway, then i'd say the purchase is worthwhile, then you save that much more. If you were just going to game, or didnt mind using the controller, then its a worthless gesture. A hell of a lot better than what they stuck with the 360 bundles though, a "Free" travel bag!
iirc, this deal has been up on wal mart since for quite some time
Im quite tempted to take the plunge aswell, but I dont have any 720p/1080p capable HDTV's in the house so im having second thoughts (480p/1080i CRT HDTV's ftl
)
Its popped up on their daily internet deal a few times. Most of what i've seen in the past though from other places seems to simply involve giving a second controller free. Obviously given a choice you'd want to be able to pick a game.
