PS3 at E3

If we aren't going to see PS3 on E3, the inquirer can perhaps explain to me how Sony (and Nintendo) are going to fill up all that empty space in the west hall:

If you had spent 25% of the time you took to find that floor plan to actually read the quoted article, you'd know the answer: PS2 and PSP.

The booth allocations are about the same as last year, which previously accomodated ps2 and psp ;)

Sony's booth will be split ps3/psp/ps2, probably in fairly even proportions if i had to guess.

The only thing Sony has said about PS3 at E3 since GDC is what is in fact in the Spong article, and it doesn't suggest anything but PS3 being present and playable at E3.

We have always said that the PlayStation 3 will be playable at this year's E3 and that hasn't changed. We have a three platform showing this year and of course the PlayStation 2, which is now more popular than ever, will share space with the PSP and the PlayStation 3. We are expecting big queues to see the PlayStation 3 and so will be taking great care to manage the crowds in the best way possible. All press will certainly have no problems seeing everything we are showing. This year is going to be huge for us. Not just in terms of what we're showing, but in the major announcements we have planned.

You actually think ps3 wont be at e3?

I actually agree with Titanio's estimation: evenly split floor space for PS2, PSP and PS3... with the difference that the PS3 showing will be largely non-interactive (more Killzonisms on big beautiful Sony HDTV screens), very few, if any, public-playable games, and some demos behind closed doors out of which the journalists will parrot out the obligatory "PS3 is Live, 4D, true HDTV-on-two-monitors, thanks to its Linux-based, electronic-distribution, HDMI 1.3 high-bandwidth Cell alien technology in your living room" type of previews.

I'm not getting into an argument about what constitutes a "anemic" vs. "full-blooded" showing at E3.

Yeah, unlike MS, Sony are actually continuing to support their old consoles even after the new one has been announced.

I can't [somewhat] blame MS for 'dropping' the original xbox; you know, that whole deal with losing money on every console sold, not really owning anything inside the box, etc, etc

As for PS3 not showing up, read around for the latest rumors. One of the dominant ones is that Sony is having trouble stuffing components into the current PS3 design. I personally find that hard to believe, as its actually bigger than a 360...

PS3 might not have an external Power-brick, so that might make a significant difference.

Support for old consoles is a good thing. But it doesn't make the floor plan a less ridiculous argument in favor of the E3 showing of PS3.

Well, if they didn't have plans for an external power supply, switching to one would be an easy way out of the size problem :) The aesthetic angle is vastly overplayed - which system is HUGE, what system uses an external power supply... If it was that important, the sleek PSP would be doing better against the Happy Meal toy-like DS.

PS3 isn't huge as well, in fact it's comparable to the X360, only a bit longer.
Is what we have seen the final design, i thought it and the controller were still listed as conceptual designs.

Also, I have no problems with an external brick, even if the PS3 had to grow exponentially for power it is still a HELLUVA lot smaller than both the recently released IN THE US Toshiba HD-DVD EDIT: (HD-A1) and any other BD-ROM designs we have seen. I think you could fit three or four 360s in the space that the hd-dvd requires.

OT: Capitalization doesn't mean anything, Punctuation! is king. So, one could still help their uncle, jack, off a horse.

Bad example considering price and functionality differences. Kinda like 'if aesthetics is that important, why are people buying estates instead of Ferraris?" ;)

More appropriate is to look at the rush of interest in PS2 with the slimline redesign. I know several people who 'upgrade' and after showing the new PS2 around the office, got several other non-PS2 owners intersted enough to go buy one. Aesthetics is also widely regarded as part of the success of iPod. Apple design adds consumer worth, despite there being cheaper alternatives. If PS3 were a 3 foot by 2 foot by 1 foot concrete lump, it wouldn't sell to the masses no matter how good a games machine it was.

no, seriously, am I the only one that sees the claim 'PS3 casing is too small to fit the internal parts' the most ridiculous thing since the claim that the moon landing video was shot in an Arizona desert?!

how retarted can some people be? can anyone really believe a case will be desined and locked before the internal hardware is finished? is it so impossible for them to make the case larger for the final model?

sheesh! I can't believe some of the things you can read on the internet...

on topic: speaking of playbe PS3, Sony and other publishers have announced playble demos at E3. I remeber one or two were specifically addressing the public. so there will be public playable demos. I could name some of the announced names, but I can't be sure which will be private and wich public. PS3 and Rev will have public handson at E3 :)

It'd be nice if promises could be relied upon, but given the Februrary event, the fact someone at Sony says it will happen doesn't mean it will. I expect it to, but a claim it will is no gaurentee.

The 'conceptual design' is actually ~10% smaller than X360 in volume.

I guess what they mean by that, is that the current design of the PS3 is too small and it will get bigger to fit all the stuff in, not that the PS3 is doomed and will not launch because of it, rather that the PS3 will be bigger than the xbox360. Still, I don't believe this just yet...
