PS3 ads in Canada and across the whole globe

He didn't clarify. Either the poster is a genius or... or... he's a Sony insider! Quick, let's ask him about the RSX.

I've tried out a few of the codes (except I couldn't get "evolutionstudios" to work) but frankly it was a little tiresome. Later on when I've got the energy I may head back to pl3ybeyond and enter the codes "killzone" and "bluray". What odds can I get on those being successful?? :p

Yeah I've been trying some different names but no luck yet. So far it only looks like genji/motorstorm/heavenlysword/warhawk/lair/resistance are up there. I was trying names from other first/2nd party sony games but no luck.

In other news, looking at the resistance video (nathanhale in code), looks like they pretty much confirm 1080p.

So pretty much the stable from the playstation.com sites? That's a shame.

Having a quick look at uk.playstation.com's PS3 page (the thing with the room and cameras found at the bottom of the page) I may try out Singstar and Eye of Judgement too. The excitement in my room is electric... :)

This playb3yond site really is pointless. Why not just provide ordinary links to content? How is using a stupid code to show the same old content doing the PlayStation brand any favours? No-one could decipher it without either being an insider or somehow decompiling the Flash source, and once the info is known, spreading across the internet, there'll be no interest. And if it does host new content that people want to see, providing a user interface that doesn't make referring a decoder image and slowly typing in a code necessary will be sure to not turn people away. ie. Why the heck should I spend five minutes finding out about the presence of...new Genji footage and the code needed and typing it, when the same 'getting me to see the content' problem would be solved a lot better by having a list of game footage with it clearly labelled that I just click to see?

Modern marketting has no common sense.

It's a little like game design I guess. There's a golden five minute period where it's intriguing before it goes something like: intriguing ---> frustrating ---> pointless ---> annoying ---> forgotten.

First Playstation 3 Ad

You can find it here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0QxoKnU5Zg

I think it's a pretty good teaser add, with lots of "easter eggs"

At 0:06 seconds - Digital Clock went to 11:17 then changed to 3:00
At 0:08 seconds - You see the boys eyes has the "3" as in PS3.
At 0:32 seconds - Clock in kitchen is at 11:17

There is probably more in there but need a higher resolution video.

Cool! The Marketing king is making it's move!

I enjoyed that ad. I can't believe you picked up the clock, eagle eyes!

That just takes me back to the days of queueing up at midnight waiting for my PS2!

I like it, its got that epic movie feel/quality that the 360 ad's were lacking. (Im probably gonna regret saying that...)

Anyone want to make a bet on the amount of time parents begin complaining that Sony is telling their children to commit suicide via the roof if their parents cant afford them a PS3? XD

The shadow of that "3" hints at the clould above (made of tiny PS3's) in some outdoor posters already shown here in the forum.

Boy, i wish mine could land on my backyard/roof like that. :D

The kid's backpack has a symbol that looks a lot like the 3 in the PLAYSTATION3 logo.

That ad really impressed me... I don't think I've seen many ads that seemed more like a movie trailer than an advertisement.

Speaking of movie trailer, I've heard this ad has shown up in movie theaters right before the feature presentation. Kinda cool.

It's a nice enough teaser, I haven't seen it with sound and with higher resolution yet so I'll hold my final judgement.
It sets the tone nicely for anticipating the PS3, and gels nicely with the billboard ads.
Also, it's stylistically similar to those clips on the PS3 site (the Blu-ray storage with the crazy guy living in a basement with tons of collected junk etc...) so at least their marketing is consistent for PS3.
I like the style. It's not trying to be hip and cool for the sake of hippyness and coolness only to fall flat. It's not like another generic coke drink ad only with a different logo at the end, it's a bit different, and I'd say a daring change on generic videogame ads where quick edits and fast action are used to cover a lack of clever idea.

Edit: Speaking of consistency, the "This Is Living" was the odd one (or is it the connecting element?) :) Has that campaign run yet on tv or theatres?

At the last scene of the add I was trying to see if there was a message as it faded, but I could only see the shadow of the 3. Nothing else.

A pretty good Ad, and if they have a longer version when the PS3 is actually released or when it's closer it will be a good tie-in.
