Reader Jacob sent along pics of this Toronto PLAYSTATION 3 billboard. While looking at it, we didn't think about whether it was aesthetically pleasing or even had nice SPIDERMAN font, but rather: Isn't it waaay low to the ground to be a billboard? Baffled. Brian Ashcraft

I agree that its rather low to the ground but in my opinion it looks damn good.

Seems ads are showing up in gamestores as well..

Did anyone else notive the total lack of promotion for Nvidia or the RSX? Very weird.

Maybe NVIDIA will take care of the promotion for their own hardware, including bragging about how they made the PS3 GPU in future adverts...

I think the most glaring omission is the PS3 as a High Definition MOVIE player , as opposed to "...unmatched digital media storage".
 
Not really, with demo units expected Oct. 20th. Its a great way to get the hype machine moving on the general populace.

I'm looking forward to playing it finally but mostly only the hardcore would buy it (considering price and how easy it is to find one) for the first few months.
 
The second ad is I think just confusing to the mainstream.
No mention of HD movie playing capability, only "storage"
"controller with multi axis sensing system"?? ... I'm sure the average joe has no idea what that means if he doesn't know about the motion sensing beforehand.
Surround sound only 5.1. I guess that means in games, but in moveies, what about 6.1, 7.1 True Dolby HD, DTS HD (or whatever the new lossless formats are called).
 
It's interesting how everyone notices something different. I was interested by the 'always on' online connectivity bit.
 
I didn't miss it, as I know perfectly well what the PS3 can and can not do.

But for the mainstream buyer, the message isn't as clear as it could be.

No poopooing there, as I am the no.1 Sony fan :D

Early?? PS3 is launching in 6 weeks or so, advertising needs to start way before launch. You can't just "surprise" people like this, especially when you're asking 500 dollars for the damn thing!

You might think everyone in the world knows the launch date of PS3, but you'd be surprised as the vastest majority have no idea, especially with the confusion created by the dalays. Heck even i didn't know it was the 17th November!

How in the world does an average consumer get High Definition movies from Unmatched Digital Media Storage. I would wager if you asked someone about digital media storage, they would assume you were talking about some form of burner or maybe even a hdd. You may see it as poo-pooing but considering everyone in this thread is buying a PS3 (at somepoint), I think its fair to point out.

How hard would it have been to say HD Gaming (whats with the asterisk?) and Movies, they had ample space.

EDIT: Poo-pooing would be me saying, "Its still f*ing ugly, when horizonal", and in the ad where it is prominently displayed, it merely reinforces that feeling for me.
