PS2 vs PStwo

Indeed, 2 Sony machines battling each other. Wich one is the best?

I have heard and have read a lot about the pstwo on the web. It seems that the PStwo gets rather hot quickly. Is this true? Has anyone got any problem with this? Or is it all a rumour?

A friend of mine bought the pstwo. I have played it for about 30 - 40 minutes and it felt very warm. So, how must have it felt if you played it over 6 hours(yes I sometimes play over 6 hours, GTA SA, anyone? :) )

And if the ps2 is better? which version is the best?

ps, indeed my English is not great :(

I'm not sure if i'm right but i believe the ps2 has more ports that were taken away from the pstwo and also the hardrive option

helo babo :)

i think the new pstwo is the best of both.
remember it has already a networkport included + undergrounddevelopment has already finished a external hardisk => usb port solution (if playing from harddisk is your thing)

and off course, it's smaller and cuter , but that depends on thaste

hey hey69

I know it looks great and all. But I don't want to spend my 150 euro's on a product that is going to die in a year...Am still not convinced.
I have already a networkadapter, not really interested in harddisk.

ps
oh, you're from belgium too. Great :)

If you already have a PS2, why consider a PSTwo? AFAIK there's no problems with PSTwo. It may get warm as there's no fan (a great move IMO) but it won't melt.

"no fan" is incorrect

... but compared to PS2 the PSTwo is quite silent.

^^ is that compared to the old(er) PS2 models? I bought myself my second PS2 model a few weeks ago (the last model from the old series) and the noise the fan makes is finally a non-issue (well, I didn't care about it in my launch PS2, but it was very noticable).

Oh and sorry folks, still didn't get the GameCube I always wanted... instead it's a second PS2 sitting there on top of the old one... hehe, well, getting the PS2 at almost 3 times below the price of a GCN, I just couldn't help myself. Can you blame me?

*hopes Nintendo will finally go for another price drop or that shops do some kind of special including Metroid Prime....* :(

When I got my second PS2, I could have gotten the PStwo for the same price as I could the old one. I chose the older model for a few reasons that might help you out on your decisison on which one to get:

1.) I prefer the design of the older, bigger PS2

2.) When placed under or near hifi equipment, it doesn't need any additional room on top (when placed horizontally), because the drive doesn't flip open, but has a tray that comes out.

3.) Incase I mod my PS2 to let it play some import games (I don't think there are any modding options for the PStwo and if there will be, because the size is just too small?).

4.) I use the PS2 linux kit, so having the older model allows me to build in any harddrive into its bay.

I hope I don't sound to preachy, but six hours is far too long to be doing one single activity (except sleeping). Take a long break every few hours (the game isn't going anywhere you know). In the (not so) long term it could seriously effect you health.

Quick and painless, there was a bundle GC+MP earlier this year, but MP is now part of Player's Choice and its down to €30 (only €21 via shipping-free us import). The GC itself is quite inexpensive as it is ... anymore excuses? ;)

Sure about that? There are many things someone can do for longer than 6 hours that don't really affect their health.................. :devilish:

Off-topic:

The GC is a bargain...If you only have one console and are perhaps looking for a second 'complementary' console, you can't go wrong with it! :D

Zelda:WW (shop for the limited edition and you also get N64 Zelda!)

MP 1&2

Ikaruga

F-Zero GX

Mario Sunshine

Tales of Symphonia

Paper Mario 2

Pikmin 1&2

There are other gems but that's just off the top of my head... :p

How much is the Cube there? I can't image the PS2 is 1/3 the price of the Cube anywhere?!?

I just got myself a PSTwo two twonight (couldn't resist the design, which makes this my 3rd PS2 - They all functional BTW) as well as a Platinum Cube (2nd) for the price of a game (AU$99 ~ US$75). Now I can leave one of each of my gf's place.

My knees are just fine. It's the rest that can get a bit sore sometimes. But i wouldn't call that "health problems".

The new PStwo is cool and all with its looks and size, but I find it utterly ridiculous that the hard drive port is removed now. I just don't understand how Sony gets away with splitting the market like that. The HD was a good idea if properly marketed and they definitely should've taken notes from Xbox and incorperated some kind of hard drive into the new model, similar to how they packed the DS into the original PSone boxes eventually, and like they are now packaging the ethernet card with the new PStwo now.

Uh, so player's choice, greatest hits and platinum hits are all 30 euros there? Damn regularly $20 here and I just bought a bunch for $12.50 each on black friday (and for christmas some sales are having them for $15 each).

Oh and the PSTwo does get hot but not like burning hot just a little surprising I thought at first. The first time I thought it was due to sitting on top of a projector but it just gets a little hot by itself.

Also the HD port not being included isn't exactly an issue when about no games support it (and the one that requires it isn't exactly worth bothering with).

It wasn't any official price, but just a special price by one of the big stores that sold off PS2s (old and the PStwo models) bundled with the IR remote, and basically 2 games (you could choose any) for 290 SFr. That brings down the PS2 to under around *60 SFr. compared to the GameCube that is being sold between 150 - 200 SFr. (either with a game that I don't want or just the system itself).

[ * 60 SFr == 52 USD == 38 Euro ]

It's a shame really that they didn't have any deal on the GameCube. Even Xbox is sold way cheaper than PS2 (usually you'll get an Xbox with 2 games + live [220SFr.] for as much as you would pay for a PS2 without anything! [200SFr.])
