Prototype

Hands-On With Prototype (X360)

another potentially interesting open world game

IGN PS3 hands on

After what seemed like forever, Prototype is officially heading to European stores on June 5, 2009 and North American stores on June 9, 2009 and bringing with it a New York City that is yours to destroy. You'll take on the role of Mr. Mercer, a memory-less shapeshifter who gains people's memories when he kills and consumes them (a process that has him sucking bodies into his own via some creepy black tendrils). Not much is known about Mercer in terms of who he was, but we do know he starts the game by waking up on a cutting board in the morgue and then goes frickin' crazy on the city by disguising himself as other people, shapeshifting into a fully armored beast and making his hands into giant mallets so he can smash anyone and anything that gets in his way.
this vid sums up the game pretty well and gives a good look at the graphics...

may be a little too frantic for me ...now only if it had green orbs. hmmm :)

That looked like fun, but I sort of got the feeling that the trailer is hyping the game a bit to much.
Then again from that trailer, it looks more fun than infamouse, but you never know.

We're better off not comparing the games, there's far too much of that to go around.

Both look good, IMO, and unless I hear that they suck from someone I trust, I'm getting both. My main beef with Prototype is how similar it is to Hulk:UD (which was awesome) -- the trailer would just work better if you were huge and green. Puny little man can't SMASH.

But the fact that it's Hulk:UD's spiritual successor is what has me psyched for the game. That and the fact that, until recently, some great scenario writers were working on the plot had me mildly positive about the plot.

Yeah well, the Prototype guys are not afraid to pitch their game loudly. They also highlighted the salient points clearly. I get what they are trying to do in the game quickly. Kudos to them ! ^_^

The inFamous team will have to find their own voice to deliver the game concept, and to avoid getting forgotten/drowned in the noise. It doesn't have to be "loud" but it needs to be special. :)

:) so fully that now i know i won't buy it.I saw their 10 reasons but all of them are now mixed in one or 2 in my head (most are the same ,really) .I feel they don't really know what to to with their game except repetitive over the top action ...

Well, its all american ideology of Punch the guy in the nose and then we'll see:D (just kidding!).

I think not just the trailers, somehow the art direction is also much better than Infamous. But , given a choice , I prefer Infamous, coz I get bored if my motivation in the game is not strong enough,m or the missions have to be interesting to keep me going. I think Prototype lacks both, from the trailers. But kids will love it, they want to break rules, and thats all this game throws in ur face ;)!

my feelings exactly.I know i like sucker punch's spirit from their past games.Itjust looks like infamous packs a little more than just an heavy destruction sand box.

yea it's almost a super hero Saint's row.... total destruction... while I'll enjoy it for an hour or so unless there are story elements that they have not yet presented, I don;t see me buying it...

it's no Crackdown from what I can see but CD could have easily put together a trailer like this before release and it turned out to be a lot mre fun than just that.

Honestly, though, I always felt that Hulk:UD was superior to Crackdown, especially when it comes to balls-out crazy superheroness. And from most of what I've seen of prototype, it's Hulk: UD with vehicle control and weapons.

Not that crazy about the last two, I just hope I can hold down the run trigger and bowl over cars as I go.

Ah, but the message is clear. It's a game of revenge (against the people who made him) and over the top destructions. From this simple message, I think they can show more depths in selected areas (if any).

I am less certain what inFamous is (How heavy is the platforming ? How much does Karma matter ? Why should I care since I am not vested in the city ? The freedom means very little to me if it's just getting around). Waiting for see what they will show next.

Was reading that 1 of the reasons behind the delay of Prototype was the orginal version was too big -

The bad: Radical’s open-world, anti-superhero blockbuster Prototype has been heavily delayed. The good: it’s now been polished to buggery and pulled back to a more manageable “vision”.

“The extra dev time from last year really was a chance for us to polish, tweak and refine the missions and gameplay mechanics,” executive producer Tim Bennison told VG247.

“The original vision for the game was huge, perhaps a little too huge, so the extra time in development has let us realize that vision.”

The game was originally to release in autumn last year, but was pushed into 2009 last May. It was one of the Vivendi survivors of the Actvision Blizzard merger.

“We’re really excited to launch Prototype in June – it’s certainly been a big project for the entire company here at Radical,” Bennison added.

I'm looking forward to this, but the long delay and the game's actual visuals sort of bring up another open-world game from last year, which was pretty disappointing: Mercenaries 2.

I'm still getting this, but I'm still not sold that being able to control vehicles/use weapons is a suitable replacement for H:UD's weaponization.

I'll put my hand up and say that the violence and gore in this game (for what I've seen of it) really put me off. :(

I think it was this video that I found the most off putting... :/

That's the first video of Prototype I've seen that actually looks interesting. Because it shows gameplay that is, not necessarily because of the violence, although I don't mind it either.

Yeah, I'm gettin' a little tired of the gore games, but it looks like it might be a fun arcade-y action title.

I like his jacket and I think it looks very good graphically for an open-world game. Not much aliasing.

I think that the weapon/power wheel could be its downfall though. What makes InFamous control so well is that everything is on the pad, you don't need to press pause to select/or change stance etc.
