This might be fun. Sorry if you consider this idle speculation, but I'm interested in what board denizens consider likely values for the NV30 for one particular metric of price/performance.

In arbitrary units (USD/10 GB/s) the price per unit physical bandwidth of the Radeon 9700 is ~ 1.9; for the Radeon 9000 it is ~ 1.3. By this measure the Radeon 9000 is certainly a better value then the 9700.

What do you think the comparable measure for the NV30 will be?

I think you're polling the wrong value. Gamers don't buy "bandwidth", they buy performance. The real poll should be "price per unit of real-world effective fillrate" If one card can render 1600x1200 @ 60fps (no AA) and another can do 1600x1200 @ 60fps (4xFSAA) but costs 4 times as much, then they are effectively equal $/fill.

Think of it like the TPC database benchmarks, measured in $/transaction.
