can't say about hardcore per say, but all adult gamers i know (i believe i'm a tad older than you, and so are my gaming friends) for sure are interested in the GC - and since these forums have a realtively mature populace, the results of this poll are quite natural for me, i.e. the majority being tech-savvy (owning all consoles from that generation) and mature gamers.

It's funny you say that, because most gamers would tell you that Gamecube is for kids. I guess the 18-24 crowd believes that if they're seen playing Nintendo they'll be labeled immature, but once you've actually matured a bit, you don't really care.

yep. those condemning the cube for being for kids are commonly in an age when they temselves badly need to prove their maturity, so they need to differentiate somehow from the established stereotype about kids. naturally, once people get actually mature that's hardly a concern anymore, so now they can start thinking more about the gaming experience and less about their "mature" public image.
