I want to see what kind of overlap there is in this current generation. I think currently when people discuss market share numbers they don't take into consideration the overlap that exists in these markets. But I guess we will see.

I currently own a PS2 and a Gamecube.

But the Gamecube has spent the vast majority of its time just collecting dust.

PS2

Above all, I bought it to play Silent Hill, Final Fantasy, Soul Reaver, the first SSX (the best of the series) and Shadow of Memories.

I never felt a need to buy GC or Xbox, because neither of them had any absolutely must-have exclusive games. The same can be said about Wii and X2 as well.

Lonely little GCN here.

I never felt a need to buy GC or Xbox, because neither of them had any absolutely must-have exclusive games.

You really should put "in my opinion/software preference neither had must-have exclusives" in there because as you put it above it is pretty inaccurate. As a GCN owner I can tell you it had a number of must-have exclusives: Zelda (Wind Waker and the soon to be released one), Metroid (Prime and Echos), Super Smash Brothers Melee, Pikmin (1&2), F-Zero GX, Paper Mario, Animal Crossing, and so forth. Nintendo continues in flourish with family friendly software in general. And by far one of the biggest exclusives this last gen, by sales metrics and by critical acclaim, was Halo 1 and Halo 2. "neither of them had any absolutely must-have exclusive games" is quite an overstatement.

Nothing here. I give away the old gen stuff to nephews and so on. Once the new stuff is out, I just can't find myself going back to the old.

Irony being my joy of Xbox live and being able to play SFII and Gauntlet (later Castlevania). :p

I've had an Xbox for 3 years now. I had a lot of fun with the machine, but now I think I've already played almost everything interesting on it (I'm planning to buy 3 more games: Voodoo Vince, Galleon and upcoming Splinter Cell 4) and don't have money to jump in, so I bought recently a PS2 with RE4 and God of War. I'm going to play on this machine for a year or so and buy 360 with Halo 3.

I have a DC as well:smile:

Same here. Got all 4 consoles last gen, although I got the XBox after the 360. After getting the 360, I started looking into BC titles, and ended finding many excellent non-BC titles (Panzer Dragoon, Jet Set Radio, Gun Valkyrie...). With the XBox being dirt cheap, I bought one.

I wrote; "I never felt...", which clearly shows it's my opinion I'm talking about. Should I underline and exclaim mark it's only my humble opinion in order not to upset someone who thinks differently? Perhaps you should have put it this way as well; "in my opinion GC had a number of must-have exclusives...".

Neither GC, or Xbox, had any must-have exclusives for me.

I had a Dreamcast too, i bought it at launch, but it died on me a year ago. That was one of the best Consoles ever made.

I really miss Power Stone, Rival School Project Justice, Plasma Sword, Kof 99 Dreammatch, Sonic Adventure 2, and a lot of other titles.

I really dont know what capcom is thinking these days. They should open a division dedicated to porting all those dreamcast titles to current gen consoles like the ps2, gamecube, and maybe PSP. Really weird that Power Stone 2 never received a HOME port, considering that the title was a million seller.

i think you're slightly mistaken - power stone 2 got a DC port, i've personally spent quite some hours with it ; ) and capcom are releasing a powerstone port for the PSP, i just don't know when.

mmm...you said you never "felt a need to buy an xbox/gc" for the reason: they didn't have any must-have exclusive. Seems you were stating the reason as a fact.

I owned a GC, I sold it about two years of having it.

Other than that, my only experiences with the PS2 and Xbox have been at others houses and I have smashed a broken PS2 into pieces and I kicked a working Xbox but it felt like a giant brick.

While I won't disagree with your intentions, but what you wrote was not written as an opinion. But breaking out my grammar nazi handbook, the opinion clause was related to your choice of purchase, and this was dependant, in your comment, on a statement about why you had this opinion.

"I never felt a need to buy GC or Xbox,
because neither of them had any absolutely must-have exclusive games."

The second clause is a statement, the first being a dependant clause on the second. Just reverse the order of the clauses and you can see that the way you constructed it wasn't an opinion in the fashion in wrote it ;) You may have intended it to be an opinion, but the way you wrote the phrase in your post makes it a statement.

As for the list of "must have" games, I don't base such on my own opinion of software but sales and critical acclaim seeing as a "must have" can and will vary. Instead I surveyed the most popular/well rated exclusives. Sales and acclaim are typically the best barometer of the market impact of a game outside one's own opinion.

Anyhow, all the games had great exclusives. It is just a matter of if they appeal to you or me. Tastes will vary, there is no argueing that, and I can readily accept that none of the other platforms had must have games for your tastes :D

wheres the option for none?
the only console ive owned ever is a atari 2600
but are thinking of getting a ps3 if its quiet
