Just ordered it from Zipzoomfly. Almost bought the 712S model for its, cough, SATA, cough, support, but it goes for about $30+ more and the 712A has a $30 rebate from Plextor, bringing its price down to $80 (plus free shipping) which is almost half what the 712S would've cost after shipping.

What I want to know, however, is what DVD media is recommended to use?

I own one PX712, and so far it worked (read/write) flawlessly with all the media i could throw at it. Which I can not say about the LiteOn burner I got at work...

PX712 is a nice drive 8)

Hmm, I've just had another look and you are right - the 712A has dropped in price and is now £15 cheaper than the 716A.

And, again, Plextor is offering a $30 rebate on the 712A, knocking it down to $80. Hell, a decent plain DVD drive can cost $35-40.

I've been tempted to buy this one, but DL media is still pretty expensive, so I figured I'd wait for cheaper media first:

Also, I've had the best luck with Ritek DVD-R Discs. I've been using the G04s (my burner is only 4x -R), but the G05s get the same great reviews. I usually buy all my media from meritline:

I've burned about 150 G04s, and haven't had a single error. The discs have also worked fine in every single player I've tried. Can't say the same for the few +Rs I've tried, even the Ritek ones. Guess my players just don't like +Rs.
