[PC] Grand Theft Auto IV

*claps hands* for the 2 above posts!

Fellow comrades and PC gamers that is the true love and spirit for graphics and PC! :)

+1

I don't see why there should be GTA4 on PC.
It wouldn't bring much more money to the publisher.
And I personally don't need it on consoles either.

There has to be a GTA4 on the PC. If not, Rockstar North have truly abandoned their PC heritage.

I can't imagine a port from the 360 being that hard. Isn't that the whole point of XNA?

Sure, all the money will be spent on the console versions by the time the PC version hits but it would make some money for a relatively small amount of effort I would have thought.

Obviously there is the loyalty factor aswell, it would be pretty low of them to abandon the PC with such a big game given it was the PC that launched the franchise and them as a company.

I would be playing this on the TV with a 360 control pad. My TV only supports 1360x768 so given that I'll likely have a GT200 by then, i'm expecting to play at 60fps+ with 8xMSAA and 16xAF. Hopefully with no pop in, better textures and greater draw distance.

Certainly from a gamers point of viiew, thats one hell of a reason for a PC version . Something tells me people wouldn't be debating which version to get if the PS3 or the 360 version ran like that

After all the reports I've heard about the console versions graphics, I think I can hold off until the fall and enjoy it more. :)

I see this whole GTA4 project as a major money cow. It's carefully playing the best cards to attract a wide gamer population. I think you'll see the port only if it's ridiculously easy to make it.

Loyalty? You're joking, right?

I personally don't like the art. And the tech is just terrible as always. Sorry, but it will look bad, no matter what.

I don't see anything special in GTA4, just loads and loads of content, carefully placed, integrated well but still not interesting enough. All I see in this game is quantity, not quality. It's very similar to Oblivion in this context, and equally well received, so, as I've said: I'll personally advise not to buy it be it for PS3 or X360.

Well I wasn't completely serious ;)

It would be nice to think the devs would take this into account (lets call it good will instead!) as long as it doesn't cost them money. But i'm afraid your probably right that they simply don't give a damn about anything but the dollars.

Not all devs are like that of course but R* with the complete shunning of the PC version so far seem to be demonstrating that trate pretty blatently.

They can turn it around yet though. Get a PC version out in less than a year sporting improved graphics, reduced technical issues and additional content and I think PC gamers will be happy.

Actually I find a 6 month turn around on the PC version quite kind considering R*'s record lately with it. I can actually sort of see why they do it too; would you rather play the craptastic graphics version on the console or in magnificent splendor on your PC?

They get their console sales early, and still can sell it to the PC crowd later. R* has sort of earned a bit of my loyalty/respect from their past games, I can let 'em slide on wanting to make some money. :)

I must say, am I the only one totally underwhelmed with the craptacular state of the current gen consoles?

The graphic capabilities when from ok, to horrible in comparison with the PC faster than I can ever remember.

And the memory limitations in comparison to the nominal PC and its effect on the games is more than I ever remember of previous PCs.

And the basic processors themselves just don't have that extra kick either.

It just seems like the PC surpassed the current generation's consoles abilities faster than I can ever remember.

Its almost like both sony and MS hit on exactly the wrong side of a technology transition, between the pricewars and core wars of AMD/Intel and the immediate release of much faster graphics from both ATI and Nvidia.

I would agree if a 6 month turn around had been announced, or even looked likely. Unfortunatly the last official word that i'm aware of from R* is that there is no PC version in development and its unlikely there ever will be

Yeah technologically it wasn't the most ideal time, especially looking at RSX.

But then again, the price wars are still ongoing, in fact they are still accelerating as far as I can tell so who knows when its going to end, hopefully not with the melt down of AMD!

Nah I am sure it will come for PC, they just need some time to recuperate the money invested in GTA4 before starting to drain more money for another version.

words of the IGN reviewer...

Like OMIGOSH!! You can like duck behind everything!!
When you ducked behind things in San Andreas, enemies could still see/shoot at you. Sometimes, they would even hit you through the wall.

I think it's just a piracy thing. If they released the PC version today, then it would have been all over bit torrent a week ago. Console games get pirated also, but it's not as rampant as PC piracy. It's probably safer for them to release it on consoles first with a 6 or so month window of exclusivity. That way they can minimize their losses. It sucks, but I think thats just a reality today. I can't blame them though, I sure wouldn't be brave enough to release a PC version day and date with the console versions anymore.

This is all certainly true in the early part of a consoles life cycle, but later on all the consoles get cracked, hell they've cracked 360 and the only real reason PS3 hasn't been cracked yet is because the media and drives are too expensive right now.

Its a fundamental problem. You can't protect a secret when you have to tell the secret to anyone in order to make money.

Even if they are cracked I don't think it will ever be as big a problem as there is a major difference between the PC and the consoles when it comes to piracy and that is risk.

With the PC there is absolutely no risk to your hardware from pirating a game but with a console you run the risk of;
a)bricking your console
b)feature/console disabled via firmware update
c)losing your warranty
d)banned from certain services

The complexity and hardware risk acts as a barrier & ensures that only the most determined will pirate on the console whereas you got nothing to lose on the PC.

I do think GTA4 will come out on the PC but probably not until Rockstar have milked whatever DLC they are preparing. Hopefully any PC version will come with the DLC built in out of the box. I'm sure they are eager to avoid a repeat of the hot coffee fiasco so are probably double checking the game code too to make sure nothing unwanted is left in there.

I had the opportunity to play the PS3 version yesterday. I was pretty suprised to see how bad the aliasing and framerate are. On the assumption that if the 360 was much better everyone would be shouting about it, I assume that will be the same.

I'm not an image quality or framerate whore but GTA4 on PS3 was bordering on unplayable for my tatses. My mind is definatly made up to wait for the PC version.

Yep horrible framerate but barely anyone is complaining about unplayability.

Soooooo..... where is the Crysis very high unplayable becouse of "38fps average lowest dip 15fps" or 8800GTX average 25fps 15-40fps range???

GTA4 is average 20-25fps with dips into the single digits. Heck it is more often below 20fps than above so scratch that average ( ) !
