I've been using Vista 64 at work and at home for the last few weeks. The only problem I've found is with some hardware monitoring/interaction apps and the requirement for driver signing. It still isn't a big enough issue to make me want to change; I've just found different monitoring apps that are digitally signed.

As for performance detriment, someone posted this link a while back to show how very tiny the difference is for running a 32-bit app on a 32-bit OS versus a 32-bit app on a 64-bit OS: Click me!

On a similiar note - I just put it for a new Intel based platform - P35/Penryn/DDR2 etc so an OS reinstall is in the cards. Is there any good reason not to take this opportunity to move to 64-bit Vista - I see the OEM package going on Ebay for ~ $100.

I am running XP 64 bit and before I bought my hardware I made sure that there were 64 bit drivers available for all the hardware. Even then it was not a totally smooth experience especially with USB wireless. But I got it all working. Total switch to XP 64 bit. It is more or less the same or no performance difference from XP32 bit. However XP 64 bit is based on windows server 2003 sp1 code sans the active directory stuff...so it could be more optimized in terms of cpu usage, memory usage, filesystem, etc etc. dunno it could be placebo effect also!
