Optical drive noise on bootup

Something thats been bugging me for years is that the optical drive makes a horrendous racket on boot fairly often leaving me freaking that I might have a dying fan somewhere.

Anyone know how to convince my PC to not do that?

Your inquiry is rather vague. What kind of racket is it you're talking about, is it the drive spinning up? If so, remove the disc in it... :D

Anyway, if I had an optical drive that sounds like a broken fan, I'd rip it out of my box, smash it up with a hammer, and then boy a new shiny NEC 3540A. :)

*shrug* mine do the same thing. THey spin up at bootup time and make quite a racket.

Maybe the newer ones don't, but...*meh*

I think all drives do because Windows tries to 'mount' them when booting.
