Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising (X360,PS3,PC)

I wonder what engine they are using its coming out sone and their seems to be no hype...4p online co-op campaign sounds good. Is that a first for a realistic FPS?

No. Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear (quite possibly my fav game of all time) had 8 player co-op both for specialized modes and for the full campaign. This was in 1999.

My memory isn't very good these days, but i think that the original Rainbow Six, also had 8 player coop.

(BTW: Orginial R6 and R6:RS are in a different league when it comes to realism in comparison to the R6 games that Ubisoft are releasing these days).

Operation Flashpoint 1 also had online coop, dont remember how many players thought.

There is no reason for why we cannot have big number of player online coop these days, other than developer lazyness.

I think the whole game is set in one contiguous area. They've mapped out x square miles, rather than having a number of smaller and distinct areas.

The hype is pretty below, but I really want to play it. Hopefully there will be a co-op demo.

Yeah, I was hoping for a demo too. I have no idea what the game is about. lol

(Okay, I just want to see the graphics in real-time. :p)

I donno if I should buy it for PC or consoles. PC would give me mission editor & the game at a cheaper price...but at the same time almost none of my friends will be buying it on PC. On consoles I'll atleast have some friends. [Dont really care about visuals as console visuals still wow me as much as PC visuals]

There is your answer. ;)

I looking to buy this I want to take advantage of the Toys R Us deal and get Demon Souls, U2 and Operation Flashpoint. I wish I had a good PC because that is the definitive version.

The game is too slow paced for me and from the sound of the review it could be frustrating with squad AI. I've grown wary with those sandbox shooters after the bore fest that is Far cry 2 and so far this does not look any more interesting. Will wait for more impressions.

I never played the original, but was a fan of the Delta Force franchise, and I'm liking DR.
Nice scenery, decent enough controls, interesting missions and good gameplay.

I'm playing in normal (easiest mode) and the only annoyances I've found are that ammo and checkpoints can only be found on a single path, any deviations and you'll respawn fifteen minutes back when you die and run out of ammo unless you scavenge from the people you kill - whos corpses incidentally fade away half a minute or so after dying so sniping and getting ammo are mutually exclusive - and the AI which is dumb as a brick as usual.
Some of these issues might be mitigated in the harder modes, so will have to see if I can get some mates to co-op once I've played through once.

PS. Console forum, seriously?

If this game is like Far Cry 2 I am all over it, I loved that game on the PS3. One of the most immersive shooters I have ever played in fact, great atmosphere despite some of the more repetitive elements.

My understanding though was that OF2:DR lacks the sandbox feel and is a more on the rails shooter?

Cheers

Iam hearing alot of the bad things for the ps3 version, alot less foliage. I wish there was a demo. This went from maybe 1st day to wait for BF: BC(2I feel like they are similar). I would get on 360 but my subscription is expired, probably won't renew for a while, maybe when GeOW3 comes out but we will see.

Nothing like Far Cry 2

Man I loved that game, one of the first online PC games Ive played. This game kind of reminded me of it...I wish they would do a new one:cry:

How does it work with foliage draw dsitance and hiding spots regarding AI, multiplayer etc?

Also are the weapon sounds well done with good weapon animations?

Normal campaign completed in four hours and 36 minutes (mission time, add on two-three hours for me getting instakilled and failing to have followed the predefined checkpoint routes).
Disappointingly short, and I like to take it slow so a speedrun would be a lot shorter.
Replay value is still ok since you can choose different paths (hopefully triggering enough events to be able to finish the mission) and not use checkpoints, but I wouldn't recommend this game be bought at full price until more content emerges.

There're woods, bushes and rocks all over the place where you can hide safely, but adaptive terrain and disappearing grass/foliage causes display bugs which easily give people away when several hundred meters away like with most engines.
The AI seems to respect hiding places quite well (could hide from mortars/helis in the woods), although I was playing at normal, so sometimes I could run a hundred meters next to a scouting patrol and not be noticed ;)

I was happy with the weapon animations (CoD4-class) and sounds - plenty of varied muzzle sounds and bullets zipping past - but I'm no connoisseur.

All in all, I'd still say it was one of the best games I've played. The feeling of being hunted, enemy helis searching for you and mortars raining down around you, or hunting unsuspecting prey in a vast landscape is lovely.
If it'd only be twice the length, a bit more varied and not as buggy when taking different paths. Hopefully patches and custom content solves those issues.

I don't mind short as long as replay is fun. I think co-op through the campaign and various difficulty levels could stretch it out well enough. I'm hoping there will be a demo.
