nVIDIA's position in next gen market?

Here's my opinion on the matter based on some info I was given many months ago. One of the biggest reasons why NVIDIA won't have a hand in PS3 and doesn't have a hand in Xbox2 is that they don't want to sell IP. They want to sell a chip like they did with Xbox1. Microsoft didn't want that kind of deal for Xbox2 and Sony sure as hell don't want that for PS3. Sony is too proud to even consider buying a chip from a company. The only way they would is if a company sold them IP instead. With that said, I believe it's highly likely NVIDIA will be setting this generation out, but I doubt NVIDIA has a problem with that considering their problems with Microsoft.

But after XB2 fiasco wouldn't they be happy if they play a part (albeit small) in PS3, something is better than nothing afterall. Pure speculation on my part!

I wouldn't consider the XB2 decision a fiasco since I don't believe NVIDIA was interested in getting the contract in the first place.

As for the PS3, they would need to sell IP to Sony in order for them have something to do with it. Something I've been told that NVIDIA isn't interested in doing.

Is NVIDIA interested in playing some kind of part in the next-gen consoles? Quite certainly, who wouldn't? Any company would be insane to pass up on potential profits from high-volume console sales, but NVIDIA won't be able to do it without selling IP. That's why I don't see it happening.

But TM, being an Industry Insider how much chance do you see NV working on PS3.....zero?? Can we be sure that NV is not helping PS3 development?

First of all, I'm not an industry insider. I still know people in the industry, but I don't have daily contact with them. I'm just a "regular Joe" now. :)

With that said, I have would say I could be completely wrong. Does NVIDIA have zero chance? Certainly no, but I'm not sure it's 50% like that one article mentioned either. It all hinges on either 2 things: is NVIDIA is willing to license IP or is Sony willing to purchase a finished GPU? Either of those things have to happen. Previous track records indicate to me that neither company are willing to do so, but they can certainly change their minds. I guess we will find out eventually. ;)
