I think the user who are in the know will buy what they want regardles of what salespeople say.

Yep that user is rare.
Of course on a board like this it would seem that kind of user is typical but in my estimations and experience I would say that the user that KNOWS EXACTLY what he wants and WILL NOT be dissuaded or upsold is about 1 in 20.
