NVIDIA GF100 & Friends speculation

Somebody here mentioned a few days ago, that Cayman won't be drastically faster than Cypress. I can't find the post, unfortunately...
Considering Cayman will be much bigger chip than 6870 and a new generation, at least 30% increase over 5870 is expected, could be more.

I don't believe that for a second. Given that 6870 is most of the way to 5870 on a smaller, cheaper chip, there's no way Cayman is going to be just a little bit faster than Cypress. I think it's going to be a significant jump, and it's going to put another year of pressure onto Nvidia. I really don't see Nvidia recovering the high ground for this cycle.

6870 is barely faster then 5850. In many games is even slower.

Sorry what? (besides this being the GF100 topic) the 5850 is generally slower than the 470 and the 6870 is generally faster than the 470. and occasionally outperforms the 5870.

Nah, 6870 can't match 5870.
As neliz and Zabaglione said, 6870 is generally faster than 5850 and close to 5870 in performance, sometimes even faster (especially in CF). Thats OT anyway, important thing is, GTX580 will have to face Caymans and Antilles, and for Nvidias (and healthy competition) sake, I do hope they'll deliver.

It's not supposed to (that's what Cayman is for), but considering Barts is two thirds the price and performs between the 5850 and 5870, with new features on a smaller die, it's targeted at taking away Nvidia's 460/470 success in that price segment. So far it seems that all Nvidia can do is drop prices (which doesn't help Nvidia), and paper launch a new high end product in the hopes of getting some sort of halo effect back.

And why would that be? Here in germany for example it's even 5-10 Euros cheaper than the cheapest HD 6870 (190ish vs. 200ish).

There is also results of more frequent factory overclocked models at 800Mhz at Hexus and Hardware.fr

weird thing is, TH for instance ranks the benchmarks on NoAA scores, but with AA the 6870 is faster than the 470 at higher resolutions. And the rest of the reviews there prove the point, there are more positives for the 6870 versus either the 470 or 5850 than there are negatives. (unless in soviet Russia, everyone still games at 1024x768, the 470 is king of low-res)

And if I look at the numbers on hexus for instance, the 6870 is a way better deal on bang4watt and still better on bang4buck against the 460OC models.

Thank you for proving my point. The summary of hexus is useless as the 460 OC model looks to have a good price/performance there, but it is useless at 1920x1200.

I just said something positive about the 580 on the last page.. and everyone seems to ignore that.. such a shame.. maybe we should return on-topic? 7 Days left to launch!

Huh, who'da thunk it.

I expected to get such reply from you, but i think you realize that you trying cling to a straw. Don't know how games in "soviet Russia"(new country?), but in Russia i'm playing at 120hz Acer gd245hq at 19x10 with 3D Vision without AA(hope i shouldn't explain why without AA) and i suppose most of people have had monitors with resolution around FullHD, not 25x16 as you trying to insinuate

And how about we keep the thread on topic, eh? Love letters can be exchanged via PM.

....7 Days left to launch!

Since you are one of the well informed members in this forum, could you please explain what kind of launch will that be, kind sir (or anyone else in the know)?

I mean, have they manufactured a few 580 cards, that will be sent to review sites? Will we see full featured reviews with benchmarks and such? Will there be power consumption measurements? Will they announce prices? What exactly? :?:

I'm curious too, so far rumors suggests it will be a paper, or "very soft" launch, with few hundred cards send out to reviewers and maybe ~500 cards reaching newegg, etc. till New Year to show "availability". We should have full benchmarks suits done in a ~week. IMO reviews will be as always, with Nvidia guidelines (OC cards vs stock Radeons), and specific settings to show GTX580 in a better light, nothing unusual.

I have no idea what the reviewers or NV will do, but it is safe to assume there won't be reviews with retail cards, pretty much like the 480 launch.
