Hmmm. I've always considered Hexus as a fair (as in even-handed) site for reviews. The DIRT2 reviews are a bit suspicious this time around (why only DX11 for the highest res and max aa/af?) though...

Anyone know what's up with the 480 being so much faster than the 5870 in Dirt2 and Far Cry 2? Legit or weirdness (forced AA, etc)?

Power draw and temp as per Hexus

    GTX480: Idle = 43c and 152w. Loaded = 93c and 475w

I'll be curious to hear about fan noise and such.

I did so too. But I changed my mind after playing around with both NV and ATI cards.

<edit> I base this on previous releases </edit>

Did they forget to put HD5's to DX9 mode in DiRT2 or something? GTX285 faster than HD5870 in it @ 1680x1050 4xAA?

The jump from 1920*1200 to 2560*1600 is very strange. 114.56 FPS vs 50.69 FPS. It seems more like a fall back to dx9 from dx11 like charlie stated no :?:

Seems to me that the 5870 is framebuffer limited in some of these.

Dirt 2 is really interesting cause in dx 11 mode the 5870 is only 3 frames slower but in dx 9 mode its sometimes 40-50 frames slower

Load power consumption shows the 480 using more power than the 5970. The whole system is using 155w more than with the 5870.

Wouldn't that be something? Should be easy to compare with the one DX11[/b] bench.

DiRT2 numbers in DX9 for HD5 are fubared for sure, there's no way GTX285 is faster than HD5870 in it, for example at PCGH HD5870 is 14FPS (21,7%) faster at the same settings than GTX285

NV defaults to DX9, ATI does not.

It will be interesting to see what is changed when the review goes back up. :p

For the record, Tarinder gave it 3 stars out of 5 first time around.

I don't believe so. They labeld the dx 11 one as dx 11 and it has lower performance for ati than the same res non dx 11.

    They just screwed up something.

Yeah, but they have two graphs of DIRT2 at 26x16x4aa and they show a 24% drop on the 5870 from the DX? to the DX11 graph. Very odd. Maybe they had vsync on :)

Ah, that would explain it. Seems it's tough to get reviews with enough attention-to-detail to avoid any mistakes like that nowadays, but to be fair us software guys aren't making it easy ;)
