Nvidia and Abit split?

I won't believe it till I hear it myself....

I'll be contacting mine tonight to confirm this.... if it is it's a crying shame - the Abit NF7-S V. 2 is one of the finest (if not THE finest) NF2 chipsets around and I was hoping they'd continue this into NF3 :(

I'd be surprised if you get any info ahead of any kind of official company press release (unless you have some unofficial inside contacts). Mind you, TheInq does say they have confirmed it with Nvidia, so....

Abit could be jumping ship to use the P4 and upcoming AMD64 chipsets from ATI.

Inquirerer says they got confirmation from nVidia, why doesn't someone who nVidia will respond to drop 'em an e-mail and ask 'em? (I can't, they don't like me for some reason. Oh yeah, I'm honest with 'em. That's why. )

BZB I *do* have those... that's why I said I won't believe it till I confirm it tonight.....
Edit: Digi do ya think I should make a sig with my 'home' site?

"Irreconcilable management difference", eh? Interesting. I fired an ICQ to someone. I wonder if he knows anything about this, considering he's generally in very close contact with IHVs.

Sure we did not know back then what will actually happen between both companies but:

The reason was most likely a worsening relationship with Graphzilla

Anyway, I can see the correlation :)

So to answer Bouncing Zabaglione Bros's question, it does seem like there is something going on behind the scene.

Mebbe you should take the afternoon off and go home and confirm it for us now? And if you could get us a bunch of juicy details we'd really appreciate it... ;)

DEFINATELY! It's a great site, a lot of people here would probably like it. Just try and keep it tasteful and not tacky, they're different here than at other places. :) (My sig is usually much tackier, I wasn't meaning to imply yours was. ;) )

Damn it Volt, we need details!!! The juicier the better, I wanna hear about Jen Hsun throwing totally meglomaniacal fits and how Abit gave him the bum's rush! 8)

Elaborate on Tyan, I see no press releases on their page..still only list ATI cards.

http://www.tyan.com/products/html/graphics_cards.html

Still here too:

http://www.ati.com/developer/hardwarepartners.html

I can't, not without violating trust, but take a closer look at the Tyan site you just linked and you'll see that ATI's latest products aren't listed. It's not that they're defecting, but lets just say that both ATI and NVIDIA have their favorites and if you aren't one of them...well, you get the picture...

Well um hmm I agree with Brandon.....

And it's not *any* companies fault per se..... teh economy is still in a slump - it's hurting a lot of bottom margins of a lot of companies.....

I'm mean - seriously - how long did you think that *this* many companies could compete in the same market segment? Especially with costs rising too and many companies streching themselves across multiple hardware types (eg. sound, mobo, gfx, and misc peripherals)....

Back when Intel released a new socket and chipset every 6 months (OK hyperbole but you know what I mean) many predicted the folding of many manufacturers then in Taiwan - heck the major expos over there switched from stuff being shown in halls to hotel rooms to keep costs down - and it appears it is now finally coming to pass.

The kitchen is getting to crowded and too hot - and there's two well known saying that come from that ;)

Same on all meadows across all ponds....

It's just business guys :(

Edit: Wahey I managed to do it almost all in generalisations and thereby maintain trust and anonyimity :)

Oh I know that, I thought you knew something other than that. ATI like Nvidia would give a Tier 1 manufacturer preference.
Personally I think companies like MSI are insane to put all their eggs in one basket, corportate pressure similar to Intel tatics or not..business is business.
