NV36 now as far in production as Rampage

Hey everyone,

Yes, I'm pure evyl for even daring to use such a title while this obviously got very little to do with Rampage, but eh... It does have something to do!

Let me insist I'm NOT saying that nVidia is gonna release a Rampage-based core :D

Everyone knows ( or should know, at least ) that when 3DFX went bankrupt, someone there had already managed to make Quake3 work on a Rampage sample.

Well, a few days ago, nVidia managed to make Quake run on a NV36. I guess that speaks for itself :)

BTW, most of what you're gonna hear about the NV33 is BS. It seems the goals for it are quite different from 6 months ago, and that even then, whatever you were hearing about it was kinda wrong. So, well, if you're trusing XBit on this one, I pity you, hehe.
Frankly, I don't quite understand a few details about it ( unless it's manufactured on Mars ) - but I'll try to learn more.

The widest majority of speculations have either mistakes in them or are too far fetched. Most if not everyone is sort of guilty there, unless he really works for the company itself.

What can I say about NV36 running OGL? Every father is exited about his kid; just as much as when a baby spells it's first word.

Hi Gnep! Fancy seeing you here :)

Back to topic: What's NV33 all about? :?: I haven't heard anything about it, and I dont read XBit.

Well, there's some NV33 stuff I just can't reveal, sorry. In fact, the original plan was making NV33 only for a specific someone - it would have been a very slightly cut down NV34. Nothing to do with PDAs or stuff ( although only a Mobile version existed, which might have been the basis for that supposition )

The latest plan is stranger. To tell this simply...
Either there has been a typo somewhere along the grapevine, or nVidia is manufacturing it on a process none of us even heard of.
0.14u, anyone?

Why can't you reveal that? Would some one die? No matter. Is it interresting info?

Sorry got to trie :)

Yes, many people would die - in fact, everyone who reads about it would have to be killed :p j/k

And no, it isn't interesting info. Seriously, it isn't. Unless you'd be in a very specific situation none of you are, that is :) So as I said, useless to insist, if I told it, it'd bore you to death anyway.

Frankly, I don't know if that info is even accurate anymore. As I said, the NV33 is supposed to be a 0.14u spin of the NV34 right now. So what was said before might be outdated anyway, because it's not really fully compatible ( although it is possible, but ridiculous )

14 micron, lol. Thats odd. I'm wondering to, who has developed such a process? Maybe its .15 enhanced (as nv calls it)

Okay people...
It's confirmed...

Current plan is the NV33 is done on 0.14u ( or at least that's what nVidia is saying internally )

BTW, while the NV36 was a foggy picture a few weeks ago, I believe it'll become very, very clear to everyone in just a few days ;)

What possible gains there would be using 0.14u?

Maybe Nvidia is really afraid of 0.13u now... Perhaps 0.14u allows them to obtain higher margins with acceptable yields over the 0.15u they currently use for those parts.

Presumably the significance of .14u--if true--is that it would indicate they are going with another fab partner. I'm fairly certain neither IBM nor TSMC has a .14u process.

Of course, I don't know who does...

I did a search for "140 nanometer" on google and all it came up with was a bunch of things about DRAM and a system on a chip.

<complete ridiculous unwarranted obviously untrue speculation>
Mixed process (i.e. logic and eDRAM)??
</complete ridiculous unwarranted obviously untrue speculation>
