NV30 Conference

Hellbinder its called PR and marketing... don't get all upset already. It's a natural part of any new 'breakthrough technology' ;)

Remember when TnL wasn't even about? People thought it would be the next best thing after then 2nd coming of Christ... er, even though that hasn't happened yet .. hehe. And 3dfx rebutted with attacks on SSAA being a 'hack' compared to their 'true AA.'

If ATi doesn't start doing some mud slinging in the direction of NVIDIA I will be throughly disappointed to be honest.

Yes Yes we ALL know that you should let the technology speak for itself but if that were the true case then there would be NO NEED for any marketing department ever full stop and all those lame (and at times not so lame) TV adverts would go away... I'm sure even that 'shoot the monkey' banner ad would die.. though that is wishful thinking.

If you think NVIDIA is worse than any other big conglomerate type organisation then you need to wake up a little. There is no need to be allied so close to one company. At the moment it sounds like you have made up your mind who is best and who is worsesestsetstsetsetset ...

NVIDIA and ATi both want your money and both want to give you the best product their engineers can muster so enjoy the ride - without any of this shenanigans life would be boring.

Oh and NVIDIA never give release dates.. the only release date they have is a six month product cycle and they have missed it in the past. If anyone thinks NVIDIA is doing a 3dfx - delaying til it hurts them and kills them off, then well they should realise that NVIDIA has its eggs in more than one basket should the worst scenario happen (i.e. everyone buys competitors products and NV30 is a flop saleswise).

And whats with that comment about one of the R300's specs being incorrect???

Maybe it's the 20 GB/sec number....I mean ATI's 9700 Pro is only 19.8. ;)

Or maybe nVidia is referring to their own "leaked 48 GB/sec" number which is some PR BS for effective bandwidth in some non-realistic synthetic scenario....

I still remember the first time Nvidia did something like this with Geforce1 and at least one other product launch . They flew MikeC and other people over to Santa Clara and briefed them in person. LOL It's how I learned that mike is a old fogie ;)....

Macdonalds and Burger king. Micky has clean commercials, BK got into some serious mud slinging. Not everyone slings mud.

The only reason they get away with conduct like this is becuase all you peolple justify it. Instead publically call a Spade a Spade. This underhanded Kyro document, misinformation crap will stop!. Tellling a lie is telling a lie. *marketing* is not some majical licence for outright deception.

There is a difference from shinning a really bright light on what you have to offer, and shinning a really black light on your competitor..

Acctually... I have grown to accept this in the last day or two.. After all R300 can claim *up to* 70 GB effective with hyperZ III and *up to* 480 GB theoretical with Frame buffer/Zbuffer compression at 24:1.

24:1 is listed at their own site. Go read it yourself

You know the Kyro deal.. I really hope someone got sacked for that. Apart from that though, the rest is just PR crap that you have to wade through.

Ref: BK and McD's commercials... hmm I got to admit I have almost stopped watching TV. What have I been missing out on?! ;)

I can see one or two things they could mean.

128 bit pixels that actually is 96 bit.

And the PS instruction count could be concidered misleading:
160 PS instructions that could be 160 PS.1.4 instructions if you can do perfect color/alpha combining in each op. But it might be "just" 96 PS.2.0 instructions.

I don't say that those two things are any big limiting factors, just that there are things that aren't completely right/misleading in the documentation.

Hmm. Well, several people have objected to your rather one-sided griping, but you haven't stopped. So what makes you think that complaining about NVIDIA will alter their strategies?

Apparently, you look around you and see a world of fools: past and future victims of evil marketing! Guess what? You aren't any smarter or perceptive than the rest of us. You're just thinner-skinned, IMHO.

All this is ATI and NVIDIA's fault. Their recent products are too damned good, leaving us with no grounds for technical complaint. If marketing strategy is the only chink in their armor, we're very lucky people. :)

Oh look a SPADE!!!!!

from the Senior Vice President of Marketing and General Manager of ATI :

"In this fast paced industry, customers demand that products ship soon after announcement," said Rick Bergman, Senior Vice President, Marketing and General Manager, Desktop, ATI Technologies Inc. "We are on target for our mid-August shipping date, when customers will be able to experience first hand the major innovations that the RADEON 9700 VPUs deliver to gaming and the computer graphics industry."

Now come on.. if that is not a marketspeak slap in the face to NVIDIA then I don't know what is.

"In this fast paced industry, customers demand that products ship soon after announcement,"

hmmm... Cutsomers demand soon...they are shipping soon.
Oh, but what about nVIDIA???

"We are on target for our mid-August shipping date"

Wow, look at that they are on target for their shipping date.
What about nVIDIA????

;) sounds like some kind of evil conspiracy by ATI's PR department if you ask me. ;)

Shipping what? The nv28? The CEO just stated the nv30 is not taped out yet. There is no way they could be launching the part only a few weeks later... Just sayin.

I think that "We are on target for our mid-August shipping date" quote was also from the ATi guy, as in they are on target for shipping the 9700. What Andergum was trying to show is that the ATi guy's only response to the 'What about nv30?' question was to mention the 9700's shipping date.
