Infuriating to see an excellent game like KOTOR sell only 300k copies :? Hopefully MS will push it this holiday season, although with the way shelf life works, I wouldn't really expect it..

Some quick marketshare numbers...

PS2 has 65% of the US market, Xbox at 20%, and GC at 15%..

Sort of annoying that GBA results were included, as they sort of clog up the charts :?

Keep in mind it's second only to a massive-sports-loving-userbase-PS2 sports game, and it's the top Xbox mover by far.

Fucking-A, but looking at the total numbers for the GTA3's makes my head spin. If one were to become a janitor at Rockstar, you could make a tidy sum just sweeping up all the cash that gets hemorrhaged into the hallway.

yeah and i wasnt sure Vice City actually took over GTA3 in sales.... well i guess that answers my doubts.... god that series must have sold 20 millions between just 2 games...

Well IMO, KOTOR is much larger in scope and production than probably every game listed above. I don't feel this way about many games, but I think it truly deserves a mil. And If MS is paying Sega for SegaGT/JSRF, then they've each done atleast 500k-750k by now.

Rez at 18k makes me cry profusely though o_O

it seems to be giving vice city a run for its money.

I just finished all of the Taris missions in KOTOR. This game kicks so much ass!

Only Taris? Man, wait till you hit Koriban :D

and one of my room mates keeps telling me he is going to wait and get it for PC  neener neener neener followed by complaining about the xbox being a bad buy for him do to lack of buy worthy titles .

having a good PC configuration it is understandable one would prefer playing it on his PC.

and a lot of gaming content is redundant b/w the xbox and the PC, more than b/w the PC and any other console. IMO it's a weakness as it reduces the added value of xbox library of you already own a PC.

I've been saying this for ages. Why people think that the PC is a 'special platform' that doesn't compete with consoles is beyond me. 'Only on Xbox' should really mean, ONLY ON XBOX (no PC port). IMO MS is really cannabilizing its own sales by allowing so many Xbox games to be ported/deved in parallel to the PC. Too many people today are adopting the attitude of "i'll wait for the PC version so i can force 4X AA/16 ANISO/1600x1200 etc, oh and download it for free too  ".

I really hope they'll change their attitude come Xbox2.. oh, and before the PC fan-types coming rushing in, realizing that I'm not advocating this as a consumer, but rather from the view of supporting the Xbox platform. Perhaps MS feels that supporting PC gaming will mean higher windows sales?? Because really, IMO its decimating their Xbox strategy.

Which was not his intention for making said comment.

I disagree. Xbox counter parts do sell through more units. the Xbox with its "pc library" have also managed to sell through more units then the GC with its "console" library.

I haven't a problem with the PC titles. None at all. Decimating their xbox strategy? Wasn't the strategy to sell units?

As for the xbox's title uniqueness i think MS needs to invest more time and money in a more active Xbox review board; individuals who's soul duty is to scout for talent and ideas. MS needs to incourage developers to be more xbox-centric in their developement. I have the feeling they have been some what slacking off.

Certainly the main reason the Xbox is on the bottom of my console-pickup choices. Heck, they have so many PC games there I get annoyed at anyone that brings those games to Xbox FIRST, or only. (Halo certainly has me miffed, and I'll grumble about Fable for a while.) I mean if you're going to steal out games anyway, at least give it to us FIRST! :p

There are a handful of games that certainly make my fingers itch to play, but almost none that override my ability to play similar/the same on the PC, or make do with an equivalent/better game on another console. The games haven't YET become with the hardware outlay, and on the whole that's pretty sad... (N64 ALMOST did it for me just with Mario64, but I managed to resist... :p )

But if these tempting Xbox games never had a shadow of a hope of appearing on the PC, would you at some point consider picking one up?

Publishers love it though; they release a game on Xbox, then pick up some spare change (royalty free) with a quicky PC port. How does MS benefit from this?

If KOTOR was through and through *only* an Xbox game, it would be better for MS than having gamers wait for the PC version, as some may eventually cave and pick it up (or even pick up an Xbox).

what was his intention ?

GC have its own weakness too..
and why not comparing to playstation ? ...

IMO the fact that xbox sold more than GC doesn't invalidate what i said.

as a PC owner i sought something complementary through console gaming, and the GC gave that to me. arcade/console gameplay, multiplayer madness. i think my gaming library reflects it well:
metroid prime, zelda WW, bomberman generations, super monkey ball, SSBM, burnout 2, star wars rogue leader..
that's what i call solid console gaming.

i know people who owned unreal tournament 2003 on PC (and who owned a more than decent PC) and bought a xbox and unreal championship.. go figure ! i think they enjoy the second because of xbox live..

but for me, unless my console would play it better than the PC, i wouldn't play PC games on it.

even further if i take into consideration the fact that some its library are redundant w/ the games i can play on my PC, and the fact that xbox "real" exclusive titles doesn't appeal much to me, the xbox is the last console i would have bought.

now w/ the eye-toy i find the PS2 rather attractive.. it's the kind of gaming experience i'm after..

I was rather implying "no" with my N64 comment, actually. And that one was strictly AMAZING for its time. I get progressively less "blown away" by games as time goes by. (Expectations change, genres have mixed and matched more, it's harder to see really impressive technology leaps...)

Of course companies LOVE their premiere titles, but it would take something exquisite to make me pick up a console just for that. And sadly I don't see that happening... :?

I pick up consoles on strength of the games I WANT to play on console, pretty much. (And, of course, on my wallet size at the time... ;) )

Of course the data doesn't support any of these arguments:

1. Grand Theft Auto is a PC franchise that is not exclusive to the PS2, yet sold WAY more on PS2. ie. The biggest game on the PS2 is also available on the PC with graphical enhancements.

2. Splinter Cell sold over 1.5 million units on Xbox, even though there is a PC port.

3. Max Payne moved about 800,000 on Xbox, despite being a PC port.

4. Elder Scrolls 3 has sold over 400,000 on Xbox, despite being a PC port.

The Xbox being hurt by PC ports argument is WAY overblown.

Bioware has a HUGE following on PC in an obscure hardcore RPG genre. It's not too suprising that KOTOR has only done 400,000 in its first month. It'll probably still hit 1 million over time on Xbox.
