Nintendo Switches up production

Where are they at as of end of August 2017?

All of this is napkin math.

The US alone is moving ~225k per month. So ~450k would be a rough estimate for July and August without hard NPD numbers.

According to Mediacreate, Japan moved more than ~540k units for July and August.

So at an absolute minimum it'd be ~5.69 million (4.7m world at end of June + ~450k US + ~540k Japan).

Then it comes down to what you think the rest of the world (Asia, Canada, EMEA, etc.) moved in that time frame.

I'd say by the end of August it was somewhere around 6.2 million units +/- 200k depending on whether you think it's doing relatively well in the rest of the world (~500-700k), or relatively badly in the rest of the world (~300-500k).

Also, sales are trending upwards in Japan, so at least in Japan there is greatly increased supply compared to Apr. - Jun.

SB

Supply has certainly caught up with demand at this point, at least in my area. Whenever I am at my local supermarket I check and see if they have stock on the shelves, and for weeks now they have always had some Switch units in stock. Nintendo is well primed to have a tremendous Christmas this year. Nintendo is expecting to have 16 million units sold by the end of March, and that goal seems very obtainable. There is no reason to believe that Q3 will move any less than 5 million units. Mario Odyssey is getting nearly perfect scores and has already sold over 2 million units. Zelda BoTW will see another boon thanks to the DLC releasing soon.

Japan still has nothing.

I finally managed to order one through the online Nintendo store because they had a new batch for sale today. Had to refresh for an hour but finally got through after adding some more games...

Switch
Classic controller
Carry case
Mariokart
Mario

Damage? 54.000 Yen or a little over 400 euros.

When will it arrive? First week of December. Maybe that will give me some intensive to finish Batman Arkham Knight before I get my Switch.

That is fairly cheap actually. My Mario Odyssey bundle was €350, which is a fairly good deal already, at least in Europe. You're basically getting Mario Odyssey for €17 that way (yes, the system alone is €333). You're in for a real treat with Mario Odyssey, by the way.

If you're getting paid in Euros its cheap, unfortunately I get paid in Yen so it only looks cheap. That said its not too bad and I can get work to pay for 75% of it

Switch is still tracking extremely well on Amazon. Currently sits at #12, better than any other console other than the new Xbox One X that sits at #9. Mario Odyssey has been a smash hit, and seems to be maintaining strong demand for the platform. This month brings a strong lineup of third party games, two of them are on my personal too buy list, Doom and Skyrim, with LA Noir being a maybe. Support is gaining momentum leading into 2018. Bandai Namco has admitted they underestimated how quickly Switch would take off, and are now planning to reveal three more titles for the platform in early 2018. Nintendo seems to be helping advertise some of these third party games. They have a Switch Fifa 18 commercial playing in Europe, and Skyrim is part of a multi game commercial with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Fire Emblem Warriors. Any worries that Switch would be perceived as a Zelda and Mario box are quickly dissipating.

Loving my Switch so far. Mario is a strong GotY contender for me. Have yet to hook it up to the tv actually. As far as I'm concerned it's simply a glorious handheld. Looking forward to playing Zelda on my long distance flight to Florida on Saturday. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 looks fantastic as well.

I believe Mario Odyssey is a fantastic game, but for me Zelda BoTW will hold the crown of game of the year for certain. There is a tremendous number of fantastic games already on Switch, and the library continues to grow with quality titles on a monthly basis. I watched the XC2 direct last night, and it looks fantastic. I became a fan with Xenoblade Chronicles X on Wii U, so XC2 was on my wish list from the first reveal.

Nintendo has done just about everything right with Switch. They brought a unique product that would appeal to an audience that is pretty much neglected by both Microsoft and Sony. Their messaging has been on point since the initial reveal trailer shown off over a year ago, the commercial airing during the Super Bowl, and high quality advertising ever since. When pricing was first announced I was worried that it was too high, but that has been proven false. I still think $199 is the mass market price, but until momentum slows down a price drop is out of the question. The final two years of the Wii U were pretty abysmal, and although Nintendo would never admit it, they obviously sacrificed those Wii U years to prepare for the Switch. This has been an extraordinary launch year lineup, made even more exceptional for those who didn't own a Wii U. Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart, and Splatoon all in the same year? Nintendo was prepared to get Switch out of the gate fast, and they have succeeded so far.

They even sacrificed the base firmware features to release it ASAP. So unlike Nintendo.

Does this opinion of yours include the lack of cameras and microphones (sold for pennies BTW), essentially killing all possibilities of multiplayer voice chat and augmented reality games like Pokemon Go?
It doesn't have a camera? Whaaaaaat

Now I'm more curious with what they will bring on switchi

The first thing people did in Pokemon go was turning off the camera. Besides for a game like Pokemon go they'd also need to add a GPS chip. The switch is fairly large as well, I can't really see people play with it in the same way they would with a phone.

In a world where just about everyone owns a smartphone or tablet I don't really see the need for the switch to be some half assed version of that.

A microphone, maybe. But the bigger issue is probably the weird phone connected voice chat.

So I don't think no camera or mic are particularly big issues.
