Nintendo Switch Revelation

Morphus X300(Android 5.1 Lollipop) tablet has a HDMI video port. NX difference might be an easy to use docking base+charger and a global Nintendo brand recognition. Expecting Android electronics factories to copy a docking base idea as we speak.
What if....? If Nvidia created ALL the SO and software of the Switch, and knowing that Shield is Android based and created by NVidia...what if Switch can play all Android games? That could be a master touch by Nintendo

Aren't JRPGs an exception because they can be played piecemeal? That is, they tend to be structured as short episodes of combat etc., unlike a typical western AAA title that's divided into longer chapters. eg. Gears or Uncharted or AC. Would you like to dip into 10 minutes of part of Chapter N and stop midway?

What's really needed is an analysis of mobile gaming habits, whether games need to be delivered in ten minutes or less experiences or whether people will spend 30+ minutes at a time. With break down for demographics.

Actually, what is fairly interesting is that Gears of War 4 is actually structured such that it's a long series of small bites. Small combat sequence, small story-ish sequence (interactive asset loading sequence basically), repeat. Each combat sequence can be done in 5-15 minutes.

It's obviously not coming to the Switch, but it is interesting that it's structured in such a way that it would be fine for a portable gaming experience.

SB

It can be any pocket that's with you. But a 6" screen won't fit where a 7" can when the 6" is twice the thickness and has two controllers stuck on the side - the full system is about 10" by 4".

It's definitely not everyone. Of course, when I was advocating my Grand Vision of the Future with a portable gaming tablet/console, I was much more willing to believe people would. ;) I think if it's popular, yes, people will want it to be portable to share the gaming experience. If it's not, I think it adds little.
the side controllers come off and you can store them in another pocket unless you buy jackets with only one pocket.................................

That is your great misconception. Everything up to now has shown that, while some people do like the idea of taking their big, complex, long, console games out of the house, the large majority has no interest in having that kind of experience out of their coutch and away from their big screen.

Is it ? I dont' know about that . Are you claiming that because the vita failed ? The vita had many reasons for its failure. As for length of games , Nintendo has plenty of games that will work for short bursts of gaming. I think you will find a lot of people play free to play junk on their phoens and tablets because that is all they are really capable of playing. I know a lot of people who still rock ds and 3ds systems. I even know a few who have gba sps that they take with them to complement their phone or tablet.

Your also assuming that the switch wont be capable of playing those same free to play junk experiances as a normal tablet.

are you a woman? Because in that sense girls clothes just generally suck. They aren't useful most of the time, and their pockets are so darned small that you cannot fit anything in them, say...pliers.

Real men aren't afraid to wear cut-off jean-shorts. Especially in hot weather. Or cold.

Regardless if the Tegra chip in Switch is more X1, or more Parker, we aren't talking about a night and day difference. Even if it's Maxwell based, it could still be manufactured on the 16nm FF process, and allow for higher clock speeds. When docked, I would bet the clock speed increases and and the cooling fan runs full tilt. With the screen being 720p, I don't see why you wouldnt render at a 720p to save power consumption.

The big deal with Switch is Nintendo will no longer be splitting it's development resources between portable and console. A steady flow of high quality games will move units. I could see a smaller mobile only Switch model released if Nintendo sees the demand. This think is going to be huge in Japan, 3DS developers will be on board, and Nintendo will be rolling out titles like never before. Zelda alone will bring on a lot of core gamers. A Monster Hunter game could move millions of units in Japan by itself. Switch is Wii U done right. Parents will love it, no more buying two pieces of hardware.

I am convinced there will be a lot of Tablet like features with the Switch. The video did a good job letting it be known that this is a gaming first product, but I believe Nintendo has plenty of surprises that they are going to reveal at the big full blown reveal in January.

I see the problems , just stop bringing condoms and you'll be fine.

Anyway why not just
NX
Nx controllers
Phone with id in the case
keys

Seems fine for me. I don't use change .... I just use Samsung pay now to be honest. I keep a few bucks in my phone case along with my id.

For me anyway I have a small little cross body bag that goes on my back if i'm going to be some where I can use my 3ds xl . I have a small messenger bag if i'm going to bring my wallet.

I expect 28nm.

I expect at least 20nm because when nVidia says "same architecture as the world's top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards" they're surely referring to at least Maxwell. And the first Tegra to feature Maxwell was the 20nm X1.

You have to remember that nintendo put 45nm in the Wii-u..

That's true, but I doubt that their plan was to replace Wii U with something else barely four years later, so maybe they're willing to be more aggressive now. Or at least nVidia can be more aggressive for them. I suspect that a big part of why 3DS and Wii U are using such old parts is because Nintendo froze the design a very long time before release. With Switch they're in enough of a hurry that they couldn't really do that, they'd have to be starting behind. Sticking with Renesas on the Wii U may have also held them back. I don't think they will be a realistic fab option anymore.

Since they're trying to make this work as both a handheld and a home console they really need the best power efficiency they can possibly manage.

And this doesn't really mean much, but I'd say that 28nm was somewhat newer when Wii U came out than 14/16nm will be when Switch comes out. By about 6 months I guess. That's skipping 20nm as well. To look at it another way, TSMC 40nm products showed up around 3 years before Wii U but TSMC 28nm products around 5 years before Switch.
