JPEG adds a thin layer of vaseline.

Yep, and faster moving shots with lots of moblur can result in some ugly artifacts. That's why most of TO:1886 shots looked like ass from the share JPEG before photomode was patched in, any amount of motion + moblur degraded the IQ drastically. Now with PNG this is not a problem

So Sony has TGS, Paris and PSX. It'll be interesting to see how they spread their announcements. My guess is:

TGS:
  • More Nier 2 info - Nope :(
  • Gravity Rush 2 for Ps4 - Done
  • Gravity Rush remastered for Ps4 - Done
  • Bloodborne DLC announcement - Done
Paris:
  • Quantic Dream Ps4 game reveal
  • Sucker Punch Ps4 game reveal
  • Uncharted 4 trailer with new gameplay and release date + Uncharted 4 multiplayer gameplay and MP beta date announcement
  • Gran Turismo 7 reveal
PSX:
  • GOW for Ps4 reveal
  • More Uncharted 4, story trailer and possibly a new demo (maybe co-op multiplayer)
  • VR stuff
  • Horizon extended demo (showing night, rain, stealth gameplay)

Article says they're looking for coders and it'll use UE4, so it's mostly bluster at this point.

It will probably be revealed alongside Sucker Punch new ip at PSX... PGW reveal of the new Quantic Dreams game, some news about Rime (first live gameplay maybe...) and Wild....

They've spent a lot of time without announcing anything [supposedly they were not sure what will their next project be after Golden Abyss, with lots of time wasted on various prototypes]. Hopefully whatever they are making will end up being good.

Hmmm firmware 3.00 has some pretty nice improvements. Good to see that all PS + games are easily separated and accessible in a select area. Also the events icon should be pretty interesting if Sony manages it well.
Communities has some pretty nice potential too.
Youtube broadcasting should multiply its viewers enormously too :D

No, Sony does not support exernal drives for game installs. But they do support interchangeable internal hard drives.
They have this since ps3....I hoped that at one time in Sony's life...they go with time and offer a good solution to everyday life problems...something modern :)

I still like changing the internal drive better. If they do start supporting it they need a USB slot on the back.

Only issue I have with it, is that they use 2.5" and getting large ones that means it got a premium cost. Would be nice if supported an internal 3.5"....

The Nyko case is the cleanest way to use a 3.5.

Or I guess you could use a SATA to eSATA cable to connect an external HDD. But this male sata connector is stupidly hard to find.

Yeah, the biggest compatible drives are incredibly affordable. A 2TB 3.5" drive isn't any cheaper.
But I want a larger drive than 2TB, its not that the cost very high, but still an even larger disk than 2TB would have been nice. But then again I assume that Sony knows how many actually upgraded their PS3 so it might not be that many. Of all my friends, we are about 10 who had PS3, then I think I was the only one that changed the HDD.

It's the one thing I HATE about the PS4 - no USB on the back! What were they thinking?! I now have a USB with right angle permanently inserted into the front and the wire goes off to a USB hub.

Firmware 3.0 goes live tomorrow - 30th September 2015.

Shamelessly ripped from the US PlayStation blog:

The 3.00 system software update on PS4, codename: Kenshin, will be available to download starting tomorrow, September 30th. We want to extend our sincere thanks to everyone that participated in the beta. I want you to all know that we’ve listened. Your feedback made this system software update even better.

There are a lot of changes in this update, from entirely new features to UI enhancements. While we detailed its key features earlier this month, we wanted to give a visual tour of our favorite new additions. This update is focused on creating new ways to connect with friends and players around the world, expanding the social capabilities of the system even further.

Sharing video clips to Twitter: Now it’s easy to share video clips to Twitter directly from your PS4. You’ll see a new icon on the Upload Video Clip menu, nestled between Facebook and YouTube. Maximum video length is 10 seconds, though you’ll have the ability to trim longer clips. Don’t forget — you can double tap the Share button to start recording a video, and press it again to stop.

PlayStation Plus: We’ve made a dedicated section for PlayStation Plus, which you can access by clicking the big Plus icon on the top right corner of your PS4 home screen. Once there you can easily manage your membership, see the monthly free games to download, deals for PS Plus members, and all of the games you’ve redeemed through PS Plus on PS4.

YouTube live: You’ll see a new icon for YouTube on the Broadcast Gameplay Screen, accessible after hitting the Share button. Now you can live stream directly from your PS4 to YouTube. Livestreams will be viewable across YouTube.

PNG Screenshots: If you’d like your game screenshots to be in a higher quality format, you can now select PNG instead of JPEG. To access, press Share > Share Settings > Screenshot Settings > Image Format.

Events: A new hub for Events has been added to PS4, accessible from the home screen. This will give you an overview of activities taking place in the games you play most, as well as official broadcasts. For instance, here’s an in-game racing event taking place in Project Cars, which you can register for directly from the Events hub.

Improvements to Messages and Favorite Groups: We’ve improved Messages by making it easier to access groups of people you chat and play games with frequently. Once you’re added to or create a group, you’ll see the online status for friends, what games they are playing, and the option to message or chat in party all in one spot. When you add or create a new favorite group, they’ll appear in your Friends app under Favorite Groups for quick access. For example, you can see we have favorite groups for Call of Duty, Rocket League, and Destiny.

Communities: PS4 users will have the ability to create communities based around shared interests, like games, genres, and more. Communities include a message board with general discussion, screenshots shared by players, and the ability to join parties / games.

Stickers: From the PS4 system’s Messages app, you’ll see a new option for Stickers. The 3.00 update will contain stickers themed around Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Knack, LittleBigPlanet 3, Resogun, and more. Instead of typing out a message, just send a sticker — like Drake looking at a watch, asking you to wait a minute.”

We’re constantly striving to make PS4 even better, and appreciate all the feedback! If you would like to submit an idea on how to improve the PlayStation experience, share it here. We will continue to make PS4 the best place to play.

We hope you enjoy the Kenshin update, and let us know what you think in the comments below!

Personally, I'm more interested in knowing what's changed in the SDK but we'll never know.

FW 3.0 is out.

PNG screenshots and new community/streaming features are great [although I cannot create new community right now].
