News about Rambus and the PS3

I was expecting 10-20 Billion raw polygons/sec with 1-2 billion with shaders, FSAA and everything.

16 GPixels (but perhaps just 8 Gpixels) and same level of Gtexels

main CPU clock: 4 GHz

GPU clock: 1 to 1.5 Ghz

CPU has 500M+ transistors

GPU has 1B+ transistors

main external memory 512MB with 25-50 GB/sec bandwidth

64 MB eDRAM on CPU and 64 MB eDRAM on GPU, not counting additional local storage SRAMs. eDRAM bandwidth in the 100s of GB/sec

16x FSAA @ HDTV res and 128-bit rendering precision.

realtime graphics of FFX CGI or Warcraft III CGI quality.

woa don;t you think (FFTSW) tech demos is putting the bar in the stratospere? something resembling maybe.

Which is why I said FFTSW 'type' tech demo's, obviously not rivaling the FF movie tech detail for tech detail but being similar in a visual way.

I expect Final fantasy the movie type tech demo's, with the actual graphics being that of final fantasy X quality CGI.

Wait a minute I am expecting the ps3 could do much better than ff 10 fmv's. Maybe even better than warcraft 3 fmv's

Don't get your hopes up is all I'm going to say.

PS3 will be amazing, but I for one don't want to be disapointed, so I am going to start expecting the minimal and come away amazed.

in all honesty, I think realtime, in-game graphics that are on par with Warcraft 3's CGI would be just amazing. same with FF10 CGI.

another good example is Tekken 4 arcade's CGI, which is just awesome .
(i have not seen the PS2 console Tekken 4 yet) if that CGI can be done in realtime, in gameplay on PS3, by 2005-2006, I will be totally satisfied and thrilled.

well, the FMV intro in Tekken4 is the same for both arcade and PS2 versions, and YES it does look amazing, although i was more amazed when i first saw the FMV in Tekken Tag, i guess my eye is more used to eye candy now and it take more to get the WOW factor....
after seeing the character models used in SH3, i expect character models on a PS3 game to reach AT LEAST FFX character models detail, although it's been a while since i saw those fmv's so i could have an image in my mind that is somewhat different from the real thing if u know what i mean...

Luckily I have two examples(more coming) of exactly the FMV's you guys are talking about.

see, we are DEFINATELY reaching a point of diminishing returns in terms of graphics. the difference between that FF7 and FF10 is immense, and if PS3 does as good as FF10 FMV, then the difference won't be as immense as the last generation jump. it will look good, but it's not as big a jump...
OF COURSE this is only by a static picture.... i do remember that the clothes and hair in FFX FMV moved amazingly realistically, so that's a plus, but u do get my point....
i mean, FF7 to FFX is WOWWWWWWWWW...
FFX to FF13 (??) will be woww.....

TTT FMV >>>>>> TTT in game >>>> T3
FFX FMV >>>>>> FFX in game >>> FF7 in game

Dont kid yourself people.

Tiny PS2 screens do wonders most of the time. True FFX FMV in real time next gen?
Maybe if we have a very very limited-view game engine done by a very very big rich and talented group...even still i am VERY skeptical.

er..... limited view? what are real time cut scenes then? unless we want real time in LOTR style, a typical Silent Hill cut scene is pretty simple..... ultra detailed character and simple background. even though i must say, some cut scenes in SH3 did feature more than one characters in a pretty detailed environment. even then, cut scenes can be tweaked to make them look better anyway.

still, if u think that the jump between FFX FMV and FFX in game is bigger than FFX ingame and FF7 in game, then u need MUCH MUCH better glasses...... i mean really, the PS1-PS2 jump will be hard to beat....

Chap that picture of TTT isn't FMV... If that was indeed what you were saying, I can't understand much you write.

The leap tech wise from ps2 to ps3 will be greater than psone to ps2 I can tell you that much.

tech-wise.... number-wise.... maybe, but i'm afraid the jump wont show as much... maybe it's just me i dont know. and let me pessimistic, the thought of being a Chap-style disappointed fanboi is giving me nightmares at night...

Not me. Why should i need glasses? Sorry but true realtime FFX FMV is skeptically not going to happen with PS3/XB2. Prepare to be disappointed for those with high expectations.
