the xbox 1.5 comments are really irksome... This isnt directed at anyone in particular but but did Sony hit the mark in devaluing x360 with that one remark

It seems that way, unfortunately. Sony is using the same strategy against 360 as they did against the Dreamcast. Namely, convince people that the competition is inferior technology, and that their own system is so much more advanced, it's a fundamentally different type of machine.

Irksome? Maybe. Accurate? Maybe that, too.

I'm a little worried about 360 right now. All of the in-game footage I've seen so far has left me rubbing my eyes and wondering, "Is this 360, or just a really, really nice-looking Xbox game?"

There's these screens, plus the Test Drive game footage I saw on G4 a few weeks back. Then there's the rolling video I saw at Gamestop last week, in which I saw trailers for Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and a few other titles.

This stuff doesn't look appreciably better than Doom3, FarCry, Half-Life 2, or Riddick - games I played on PC last year. Watching those videos, I felt alarmed - and then disappointed. As someone who's played and loved games since they first hit the market, I honestly felt a little rattled.

And you know what? I haven't yet seen a 360 game in motion that looks better than Wreckless - a (drop-dead gorgeous) first-generation Xbox game.

Now, I've heard all about the underpowered alpha kits - but that doesn't make me feel any better when so much of the footage Microsoft is using to promote its new system is so underwhelming.

Believe me, I cringe at the phrase "Xbox 1.5" too - but I worry there's something to it.

Yah it's called being brainwashed

Yes? Perhaps you'd like to tell me what in-game 360 footage you've seen that's knocked your socks off? Or how about those latest PD0 screens in the thread next door?

Please, I look forward to a valuable contribution next time.

Kolgar , if sony showed actual playable games they wouldn't look any better than what ms has shown. This is all developement shots .

The xbox 1.5 is really bull and if you look at it that way and know about the hardware you couldn't hoenstly consider the ps3 anything more than a xbox 1.75

the only reason why they get away with this is because they haven't shown anything yet

There's is nothing to the XBOX 1.5 thing, it's ridiculous. This generation is much more powerful compared to PC's than the orginal XBOX was in it's time.

Do you forget that previous to this the most powerful console pon the planet was running a 733Mhz celeron with 96 MB of ram? How can you call a triple cored 3.2Ghz machine with 512MB of Ram and a ground breakin GPU... .5?? This logic amazes me...

The entire 1.5 thing is based on this "presumption" that the PS3 is more powerful, an unproven, untested presumption.

If the PS3 turns out not to be as powerful as Sony is hyping it to be, what then? Is it all of a sudden XBOX 2.5? Why is everything relative to the PS3? regardless of the power of PS3, or lack thereof, 360 is still one helluva machine, a huge leap forward for all gamers, bottom line.

I agree with Kolgar that the majority of 360 videos have not been impressive, but I have seen definate improvement on some games over the last few weeks. I'm willing to wait until the 360 launch before I decide whether it's worth buyin at launch or not.

The Fight Night and Unreal games they showed were far more impressive than any 360 games I've seen so far. I think we will see some PS3 ingame videos before the 360 launch, but as long as the price is right Ill probably get both anyway.

I understand about these stills, but it's the PD0 stills, the DOA 4 footage, and the rolling videos at Gamestop that really gave me pause.

Then again, there are some stills of Gears of War that got me really excited about what a next-gen game can be... Only thing is, I don't know if that's realtime.

*shakes head* I'm just going to forget about what I've seen so far and give the machine the benefit of the doubt. With specs like that, 360 has GOT to be better than the stuff we've seen so far.

It's not surprising that a lot of people think that Sony's CGI done by professional studios looks better than Alpha kit screenshots from lower rung third party devs. :)

Final night was two characters in front of a static 2d backround hitting each other .

Unreal 3 does not look any better than gears of war which is based on the same engine and was playable at the event .

i agree pdz doesn't look that great , but doa 4 looks good for a game the developers claim is 15% done and wont hit till after the launch window .

As for gears of war it is real time , it was playable behind closed doors , see my new post you can see the behind the scenes video of actual gameplay

edit ^ also if pdz buildings and zones are fully destructable like full auto i can deal with half life 2 lvl graphics in the end . Egm claims you can use explosives to take down any wall in the game thus changing the flow of the maps at any time . I can deal with last years pc graphics for a step foward like this in game play

Obviously you need to go back and look then. It was stated by a number of first hand eye witnesses in the media that Gears of War looks just as good as UT2007 or any of the other realtime demos Sony showed.

That kind of puts a kink in the "any 360 [game]" and "by far [better]" statements, now does it not?

Sony may very well end up with better looking games, but neither of us know that. But to say Sony's realtime stuff was far more impressive is just wrong, and anyone who has seen GOW will tell you that. If I can find some of the industry quotes I will post them because they say just as much.

I'm sure the Fight Night backgrounds will be better when it's released.

Gears of War does have nice graphics, but I was dissapointed when I saw a gamplay video of it. I guess it's just not my type of game, but it does prove the Xbox 360 is capable of decent graphics.

I think Test Drive is one of the best looking games on the 360 so far. The developers have said that they still need to add AA but apart from that it's looking nice.

The only other 360 game to interest me is Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I still have a small amount of hope that PDZ will live up to it's predeccessor though.

ROGER THAT!!

I will take HL2 graphics with new gameplay elements any day of the week. I am tired of great looking static worlds. I would trade Killzone 2 quality (ignore the fact the trailer had a wall blowing up wink wink... I am making a point here!) for HL2 with destructible buildings any day. Sure KZ2 quality graphics look great and are immersive, but if I hit a wall with a bazooka I want a whole in the wall!!!

That would be off the hook and increase the reply value 10x as long as the game was balanced. I could live with an entire generation of BF2/HL2 quality graphics if the technology was put forth in making more dynamic worlds.

So yeah, that news sounds GREAT jvd!

So do i , however why do you give sony this leway and not ms ? Pdz , test drive , dead rising and all other games including gears of war will look better on release . As will fight night for sony .

I can only go by what I have seen and IMO the UT2007 looked better than the GOW footage.

Both games look great but I prefer the realistic look of UT2007 over the shiny look of GOW.

Remember unreal 2007 wasn't playable and was running on a sli rig with cell , gow was on a dual g5 with a x800 in it .

So there is bound to be diffrences but the quality isn't that diffrent

Anyway the claims of xbox 1.5 are very false and it will become more aparent in the future as games become final

Anyone know if this is this in-game? This is amazing...

Q: Is Fight Night 3 even confirmed for the PS3?

EA never actually said this game was exclusive as far as I know.

I just can't understand why ms would show PDZ, Tony Hawks, Tiger Woods ect when they look so bad. I actually thought they had shown the PS2 footage of Tony Hawks:AW.

really calling it a xbox 1.5 or a ps2.5 is bs . The shots even at this point in time look better than the the other systems and I didn't think there would be this much diffrence
