New spy footage of 2009 Nissan Skyline GT-R at track

 I suggest you go on youtube at look at a few videos of cossies beating jap cars with bigger engines and more power up the quater drag strip. In fact one video springs to mind, a escort cossie with 600bhp vs the TRD supra with 900bhp and the cossie wins.

Not bad for a 2ltre ay? how much bigger is the supra egine again?

Ford RS 200 >>>>> any car ;)

And this is just for you :p

Supra's are two wheel drive, I doubt you will ever find a cossie beating a skyline with the same power, never mind more.

Still, what does that have to do with anything, you were talking about a new car from the factory not one someone has tuned up.

If the new Cossie has a two litre engine I doubt it will have much more than 250bhp.

I don't dislike Cosworths, but there is a reason Ford never bothered with them for years, and it's no coincidence that that they disappeared when the much better and far cheaper Impreza first came out.

Yeah, literally - 'cause that engine won't live much longer than that :)

There's cossie in greece pushing out over 12000BHP, And the Cosworth engine is now a 22yrs old. ;) And there just as reliable as they are in standard tune, although they suck up abit more fuel :p Are EVO engines pushing out over 12000BHP? last i heard they just broke the 1000BHP barrier.

  I think you meen the much cheaper and UGLIER looking impreza.
Escorts didn't win any design awards either.

I see no argument from you about the performance though, I take it you concede that Impreza's were and are far better cars ;)

Brakes and servicing is all I've had done to mine in 4 years, despite it being tuned far beyond factory spec, Cossie's could barely cope with running standard.

People don't say Fix Or Repair Daily for nothing

You surely meant 1200?

I don't believe for a second that such an engine will do more than a few thousand miles when driven a bit harder. Surely it could work for 20+ years if you have it standing in the garage and only get it out to go buy some groceries once a week or so.

Ah yes i meant 1200

The Cosworth YB engine is extremely reliable, well the first generation ones were'nt as they were prone to over heating but once they changed to the new 200 block ( thats a cossie term :p ) over heating problems were a thing of the past. I know people running over 600bhp and are using there cossie as an everyday family car.

 No, and how far is tuned "far" beyond factory spec?

Just under 90bhp more than standard and lord knows how much more torque.

That is with standard components other than the exhaust. Try getting 90 more horsepower out of a cossie without having to replace most of the engine parts without it breaking every five minutes.

Cossie's have 220bhp as standard

Stage 3 tune takes about 2 hours and boosts the power to 330-350bhp and just as much torque.

It involes :

Dark Green fuel injectors, and a -31 actuatur and a remap, cost about £1200

Spend an extra £500 and get a RS500 style intercooler and you can get an extra 20+bhp on the same set-up. Cossie's can run roughly 400bhp before you need to start replacing the engine internals. You really need to lighen up on cossie's, they USED to unreliable bout 10yrs ago, but now there more reliable then just about other car. Unlike the impreza and its choclate pistions and bubblegum crank  And 90bhp is "far" beyond factory spec? Please...

Of course this is why Ford come top of all surveys and subaru down the bottom.

I don't know anyone that owned a Cossie that would say it was reliable, in fact most of them sold them to buy import STi's from Japan.

Listening to you, anyone would think Fords never broke down and were the best cars on the road.

So my poxy Subaru with it's 90bhp more, will be quicker than a stage 3 tuned cossie, that's nice to know, even more proof for me that forgetting my schoolboy dream of owning a Cossie and buying an Impreza was the right choice.

The problem with both Cosworths and Subaru's is that they have encouraged other people to put silly huge 5 inch diameter exhausts on their cars. Where you can just get away with it on the aforementioned some of the other cars just look silly.

Last night I saw two of these down at halfords, one on an old Audi A6 estate which also had an S6 badge on it ..yeah right. That looked stupid. One also on a Mk2 Toyota MR2 as well. Both sounded bloody horrible. My car has a small twin exhaust on it but sounds a lot better because it has a 4.3l V8 shoving the gases through it.

The Subaru beats the Cosworth for that nice sound coming from the flat 4, very distinctive, but the Escort Cosworth probably beats it on internal ambience even though it is older. Both are great cars for what they do though, you should be both be giving each other a hug :D

Credit were it's due, Cosworths were good in their day. A day that has been and gone in my opinion.

Sure you may get someone who spends 6 times as much as the car is worth making a decent one, but factory spec against factory spec they will never catch up with or surpass Evo's and Impreza's.

I only wish Citroen would make a supped up 4x4 turbo nutter car as it would probably be the best car on the road (until it acted all French and broke down  )

Remember the olf Pug 205 Ti16 ? 4x4 with turbo in a small light package. I'd buy one today if there are any still going....

Is Ford going to be selling the Cosworth in the states?

I thouhgt all the hubub about the GT-R was due to it not being sold int he states. Where you can get it pretty much every where else no problem? From what I have read about the Skyline versus what I have seen with Nissan engines in general, power is going to be the least of everyones worrys. Most Nissans engines have been quite receptive to boost. I know the FWD SR20's can handle 18-20 pounds of boost (by then you have no traction in a FWD vehicle) before the internals need to be looked at.

So really what everyone should be concerned with is the cornering ability. And ATTESA E-TS (pro) looks like it should help trmendously (at the expense of weight).
