And I wouldn't expect anything more, but need I remind you that the title of this topic is "WOW", so I commented in response to that.
Maybe it's because he approached it from the standpoint of a gamer and you approached it from the standpoint of the devil's advocate.

Seriously, wouldn't you like to race through a game that looked that good?

Picture looks really good, are there any more of them so we can compare? Compared to the real photograph I'd have to say it is a good representation.

I've loved the PGR series and this will be a must buy for me next gen.

Stop flaming each other in some of these posts.

"BlueTsunami" I hear a storm comin, many people will fight today.....
"Wife PinkTsunami" Shut up Blue, go throw out the garbage!!
"BlueTsunami" Yes ma'am...

Not really, heh. Then again, I don't find enjoyment from racing sims, so the technical perspective is all I can offer in this case.

Good to know that I´m not the only one who isn´t impressed in the least. :p

Maybe I just can´t appreciatte it, but all I´m seeing is low geometry, ho hum textures and prebaked lightining. Is there something else going on?

Be prepared to be dissapointed with first gen games then.

Be prepared to be dissapointed with life, actually. :)

Thats the best kind of dissapointment....

Well since my post got deleted I will say now that the picture shown is proably one of the best if not the best screenshot that I've seen of a video game to date.

I just hope I can go in, and order some Chinese food, that goes through the internet, and brings take-out to my house. Yum!

BUT if the table tops in that restaurant are not using extra special lighting, and fancy reflections, I'm going to blow a gasket. ;)

Is this one of those tricks where you post an actual photograph, and the fanbois from the opposing camp would still say they aren't impressed?
For real.

If you're not impressed by this then I'm speechless. Compare this to the actual photo of the place.

I can't believe some people are bashing it for having too much detail. Unbelievable. Game developers can't win. You give them flat billboard geometry, they bitch and vice versa.

Gdamn that's just amazing!

I guess they weren't kidding when they said the game will look even better when finished compared to the previous shots. Imagines a new Shenmue game having these kinds of building graphics.

If the improvement in graphics from the GT2000 trailers to the final GT3 A-spec game is any indication, the Vision Gran Turismo images and video are quite underrepresentative of what Gran Turismo 5 will look like. The only thing next gen about those screens was the resolution and polycounts.

Ambient occlusion info for a static object is a somewhat mixed bag:
- ambient occlusion is view-indipendent; but you can accelerate frame-by-frame calculations if you adjust the sampling to the camera's view
- the occlusion generated by the object itself will remain to be static, and thus there's no reason not to precalculate and store it
- the occlusion generated on the object by other, dynamic objects still has to be generated in realtime

So, about the question of dynamic lighting + baked occlusion, we can make the following conclusions:
- you can add dynamic lighting, with specular highlights
- you can add dynamic shadows
- you can not add the dynamic ambient occlusion resulting from cars and other objects passing by.

IMHO it's a good compromise, although the per-vertex data is far to soft and blotchy for my tastes.

I know it's a racing game and thus the environments won't look as good as some other games, but... I'm really not impressed. And I agree, do we need a new post for a single screenshot when we have other posts of PGR3 screens?

LOL gosh..i wonder what DOES impress you then..dude your nuts

How'd KK get dragged into this?! For crying out loud, that's a different topic that's totally unrelated! If you drag his comments in, someone somewhere will counter them, someone else will drag in all MS's brain-dead comments, and before you know where you are suddenly it's a fan boy fire-fight.

Comment on the topic and it's relevance, discuss topics that derive from the discussion from it, but for crying out loud when entering the B3D forum leave the PR campaigning at the door o_O

ITs was just for fun...i didnt mean to start anything... :(

Which cities are common between PGR2 and PGR3? Just wondering if they are getting visuals like this starting from a city that was already built for PGR2, so they would just have to add the finer details. Plus it will be two years since the release of PGR2 if PGR3 is a launch title (right?)
