Yeah, so I got a new PC. Here are the specifications...

Now, here is the really fun part. :) I've played two games on it so far - CS:Source and Battlefield 2 and the problem is consistent on both of them. Basically I can play CS for about 20-30 seconds with everything on high at around 100fps, then it drops down to 10fps and it laggy as hell.

30-40 seconds later it goes back to playing perfectly, the same thing happens over and over again. The exact same problem occurs with BF2 and doesn't change even when I'm playing offline. I REALLY need help.

Okay, could this possibly be a problem with my drivers? Or... I dunno. Plus side though, mah PC lights up. ...

Also, sorry if I posted this in the wrong area. Y'all are so elaborate I didn't know where to post this.

Are you running anything in the background (anti-virus scanning for example)?
1 GB of RAM is okay but not great these days.

I've got two things running.

EXPERTool and the Nvidia settings, I turned both of them off and it didn't make any difference.

Sorry about the double post, I dunno how to edit @__@ but I also played both games at very low resolutions and lowest graphics settings. The same thing happened, unfortunately.

Something else is running in the back ground hidden or your video card is overheating. If I remember the Nvidia GPUs will down clock when overheating but I could be wrong about that to. To see what loads when your system boots up go to run for the stare button and type in MSCONFIG and hit enter. Go to the tab named startup and see what is loading on bootup.

I agree, with {Sniping}Waste, it seems perhaps your GPU is overheating and throttling, you might want to check GPU temps in the nvidia control panel.

Agreed...the 7900 GS runs hot to begin with. And check background proggies using Processes tab in task manager and sorting my cpu and memory use.

Um..... Lemme try.

ASUS A8V-VM SE Motherboard, everything else I've already said except I've got an I-BOX 460W case. :/ That's all I know. I'm not very tech savvy and I don't want to tamper with the thing and void my warranty.

Btw 3Dmark06 results..... 2547. I don't believe that's good, and get this according to the nvidia set control panel. The temperature went down instead of up. At least if I'm reading it right, this was during the test.

Maybe these will be able to help.

Man.... :(

Have you installed the via drivers for the motherboard and updated drivers for the realtek audio and graphics card?

It really is a strange problem. I'd go into the BIOS and make sure the on-bard S3 graphics are disabled and then disable sound too to make sure it isn't that.

I've done ALL of those things, no change whatsoever. I'm thinking my GPU may be totaled but I don't want to take any chances, can't go in the thing and void the warranty.

I'm buggered. :/
