Looks 10 times better, the lighting is sublime. I dont know, but considering 1st gen titles are only really utilizing one core, I'm pretty excited for the potential of next gen. 8)

And in before the haters, the first pic DOES have a shadow, look to the right of the car. No more cardboard cutout shadowing. Can't wait to see Sam Fisher cast a shadow like that next gen.

There still needs to be occlusion shadowing right beneath the car, and right where the tires meet the ground.

Sure they are - but looking at those shots above, I would say just barely. Honestly, what's so impressive in those linked screens (apart from being an xb360 game <sigh>) :?:

What's with some of your people? It has nothing to do with it being an xbox 360 game impl, as I can assure you the PS3 "port" will look the same (this is EA we're talking about). However it seems that YOU and a few select others around here have short memories on what current gen games seemed to look like.

Fine let's do a comparrison.

You really still think these are "just barely" better than the previous version? I don't know whow anyone could honestly say that. What I think is going to happen soon, is that every PS3 screen shot that comes out (and looks just as good as anythign on xbox 360) will get showers of praise from you and a select few others as being "true next gen titles".

oh you must be mistaken Quincy, I wasn't even comparing it to any particular PS2 version, let alone 'the' PS2 need for speed. I'm looking at those screens above and am thinking "meh, looks like something that you could definately find on current generation hardware". Or are you telling us indirectly that these new batch of nfs screens blew you away? It certainly doesn't impress me much. But hey, to each their own.

Btw; i wouldn't think I've lost my memory on how current generation games look like... in fact, I've got Burnout just running on my tv across the room for reference.

Are you telling me, that after I specifically said these look night and fday better then the PS2 version you replied with:

In that quote you aren't talking about compared to the PS2 version of the game? Well just like teh others in a few threads that claim the next gen shots don't look good, or aren't showing anything new, I'd really like you to explain what you are comparring it to then, just for the sake of having a complete argument.

"meh, looks like something that you could definately find on current generation hardware".
once again that comment rears it's ugly head. I'll say it again, compared to what current gen game?
Or are you telling us indirectly that these new batch of nfs screens blew you away?
I said it looks night and day better then the PS2 version. PGR3 blows me away more then this game. also as i said at the start of this thread, these screen shots are old and were out around E3 (likely taken on alpha hardware.).

I simply don't know what you are comparring it to, that's all.

My bad: I never played the PS2 versions of Need for Speed but assumed the latest one was around the same level of Burnout 2 and perhaps 3. At least, some screens I've seen from the PS2 before the game launched looked quite nice (of course, bearing in mind that the NFS games on PS2 always had framerate issues, but that's besides the point).

So, to be more precise, I'm not comparing it to anything specific, but if you want some specific games, as said, I have Burnout running across the room and it wouldn't take a lot of effort to pop Burnout 3 right in there quick for cross reference. There are also some nice GT4 night-city shots available (the Paris track) which sans the flickering holds its own surprisingly well. As already said, I'm not saying that a particular instance of a current gen game looks better than what we're seeing in the above NFS pictures, but that it simply isn't "next gen" enough for my liking. In fact, the pictures above could for all I care be from a current gen Xbox gen and I wouldn't be surprised.

And no, if the PS3 games turn out to look like this, I won't refrain from thinking it could be from this generation either.

Ten times better than what Red Cloak? It looks just as bad as the first and second batch of screens released. What happened to the yellow Porsche caliber graphics? This is just disappointing IMO, that road is... well to put it politely, complete rubbish. The trackside visuals resemble those of Burnout 4 on Xbox, quite shocking. Are EA waiting for the other console before really flexing its muscle, because the efforts so far from EA have looked too mediocre to be classed as Next Generation.

did EA flex its muscle this gen, and considering it's going to be an open city like nfsu2 or midnight club3 I think it looks ok, the wheel wells on the cars are smooth and there are no hard edges on them like the nfsu cars, and it's coming out on the ps2, xbox and probably gamecube aswell I don't expect much but higher res textures and slightly better cars

Those ss arent bad, but they are nothing special.

And that is, not bacause it is not happening a lot more of processing power, it just because as more real things are less impressive(comparatively) will be, that is truth for every game, each time we will see a new engine the less impressive will be.
