NEw Madden 360 Screens - looking better and better....

Will SOMEBODY please push the big, red, candylike, 4x AA button!?!?!

Looking better though. With AA and some fog it would probably look damned close to the initial trailer.

I can't stand the players' skin. Luckily you probably won't actually be close enough to see it most of the time. The weather effects, people on the sidelines, and the crowd look pretty nice though. I think seeing it in motion will make or break it.

Yep. Although fine detail has a way of transmitting itself, every so subtly, even when zoomed out. e.g. Notice HERE how the linebackers all have mirrored stances at the same time. While players are trained for the ready position, they move, adjust, etc... and look different. Do details like that, when out of sync with reality stand out even at a distance.

Rgr. Stadiums are great--love them. Sidelines look good too. Weather is ok (not great IMO).

What really stands out from the screenshots, outside the skin, as missing is proper lighting and shadowing (where is all the soft self shadowing?!) and the prebake uniform wrinkles.

To their credit it is looking better and it will play fine (Madden always does IMO). Of course I would like to see their footprints in the snow (e.g. why no prints leading to the WRs? Are we still not doing dynamic field conditions?) And they DID cut some features (boooh!) but it is Madden. No console is complete without it.

Looking good, even if I do expect more from a title selling 3-6M copies a year.

Hopefully it does not have the problem the PC has (you cannot remap buttons for Off, Def, etc... individually... if you change "A" in OFF, it auto changes "A" in DEF... the console versions don't have this problem but you never know what creeps in).

IGN said:
EA's five launch games show EA's inability to deal with such a high volume of games simultaneously on a new system, coupled with very late final dev kits, which is a common and very real complaint among all developers. Additionally, EA has admitted their games are building blocks for the future, meaning the next iterations will be significantly better. Guess that means Madden 07 on 360 and PS3? Sure doesn't seem like that monopoly on the NFL franchise is working out so hot in its first year.

I knew that this wasn't what next-gen Madden would really look like. Madden 2007 I'm waiting on you.

That article has a TON of grammar and spelling errors. I swear the editor must have been drunk or MIA to let something that bad pass.

If their standards are that low I really need to apply for a job at IGN!

As for EA:

EA's games, on the other hand, shine in some areas, but fail to impress in others. Madden 06 features some of the best character models on the 360 to date. The level of detail on each player, each field, and seen in the volume of animations, is impressive from a strictly graphic standpoint. FIFA also displays excellent facial expressions and emotionalism from each player. But there is no owner mode or create a team or character in Madden on 360, and only a single season mode in NBA Live, and in all of the sports titles, from Madden to Live to FIFA to Tiger Woods, the games all look and feel like they're half way done. They're relatively empty of features, bells, whistles, and whatnot, and those are all the things EA has trained us to look forward to and enjoy annually.
I know some will defend EA, but you don't buy a $400 console and turn around and pick up games with *less* features than their Xbox/PS2/GCN counterparts. I think it is safe to say most early adopters have a current gen console. I know if I were picking up a 360 this fall I would not be too excited about these titles. Sure, they have room to grow. And yes, some look really pretty. But what are they delivering compared their last-gen counterparts in gameplay? I can live with a game like CoD2 (which is a continuation of a great series in a story-driven action cetric genre) or PGR3 (car games have not changed a lot in principle over the years, but detailed worlds, great sense of speed, and online features are a nice evolution we expect). But giving me LESS features?!

If I was picking up a 360 I would be all over NBA2K6 just in principle. I hope 2K plasters on the front of the package, "Only Xbox 360 Basketball game to have _______ features" and do what a lot of products do: A check box on the back listing off all the stuff they have and their competitor does not.

While I will wait for the final reviews for how they actually play, stripping features does not excite me, nor does this: "EA's games are mixed bags, and for any fans expecting the greatest Madden or Live or Tiger ever, I'd be very wary indeed about buying these games." Ouch. Not a good sign.
