New Halo 2 screenshot

Why on earth do Halo (and many other games) have aliens and 'marines' that wear super shiny, bright coloured armours :?
You'd think that is so very inpractical at combat.

don't underestimate the shiny shine power !

you know it is made to move you nearer the fabulous world of CG-like interactivity.
too bad you loose some framerate (and interactivity) because of that.

Haven't they heard of camouflage.

maybe these ET are colorblind ?
or they were so sure of them...
or they're not that smart.

rabidrabbit:
Sure they aren't, but a high-res concept rendering is nothing to drool over.
Concept renderings often come before in-game models are established... you know, during the concept stage of development. There's no expectation that they'll use any in-game asset at least.

These here are the real-time graphics touched up with the image quality of high-end CG.

The special shine on their armour was done better in MP 8)

The "corset" area on the Phason suit particularly. It had a great color changing effect on it. I wonder how they did that...

Also, in Wind Waker on the Armos Knights they had this great looking layer of reflection over a layer of matt. And it changed too from the angle you were looking at.

Jsut another example of overlooked effects in GC games :(

Is it me, or does this screenshot look a lot like Halo 1... ? :/

Not, its not just you. They used the same floor pattern as halo 1 in fact. It looked even more crisp in halo than it does in halo2

we could make a topic about games whose screenshots look less and less nice as the time of their release approaches.

halo
halo2
PGR2

hurhur...of that list, the only one quite somewhat true is project ego, even then the game looks hot in motion. Some of the released screens are said to be an old build by the BBB forum mods.

Fable took a huge turn for the worse visually, and no the video's don't look like the original screenshots of the game

I don't buy these whole "old build" stuff, as the OLD BUILD LOOKED BETTER than any build out there now.

What happened?

The whole game is actually turning towards the worse FROM WHAT I'M SEEING atleast, gone is the real-time aging system monolx(sp?) hyped since Fable was simply known as Project Ego.

I'm also willing to bet carving something into a tree and then coming back years later to see it there again is gone too.

Let's face it, every game this guy has hyped has never lived up to the hype. And we are seeing this with Fable, he simply hyped too much; the game was too open ended.

Disapointing to me atleast, I really was looking foward to the game. Not saying it won't be good though, but nowhere near what the guy was hyping the game TO BE.[/img]

Actually, PGR 2 does look better when the screenshots without the HUD being shown (remember the super hi-res PGR2's pics?). Also, the first batch Halo 2's pictures are looking far more out of this world than anything that we've seen about this game recently (E3 video, or... this screenshot). Hope they will fix it..

Eh, big deal with this difference in quality of released ss. Its happening around as we speak. Not an Xbox Xclusive, by no means no.

BUT H1 definitely look better in motion than any normal res ss(some of which looks overly PC-ish) and H2 is looking as good as any normal ss. Seen the E3 gameplay? It looks as good as the earlier teaser, just done in a different scene. Lets be fair and compare ss of almost similar scene rather than pick and stick random ss... :?

What happened is that like many other first party published Xbox games Fable was shown off 2-3 years before it should - when it was nothing but a tech demo. During the development many of the initial ideas have turned out to not work in a game or just not be feasible. Of course at that point damage had been done so to speak. Hype had built up. A despicable but quite effective marketing technique which M$ employs liberally.

The whole Fable thing is become slightly reminiscent of what happened to the Getaway. Hopefully It will turn out for the better though because it did seem like a lot of cool ideas for the game. IMO anyway

I think the word is, "Yeeeeck!"

That certainly doesn't look anything like the game I've got running on my screen! I am currently wearong a puzzled look, as I've no idea where many of these shots have come from.

On another note, they're a really interesting mix of shots from over a year ago and shots from a memory footprint test Simon did where we reduced all the game's textures to their lowest mipmap level.

Not the lack of shadows in most of them: a dead giveaway that they're not from the current build. And as a side note, why the hell would we make the game look worse NOW?

There you have it.
For a trial test, hit properties and go to your 3D card setup, change mipmapping to the lowest and WALA@LO!N!BEHOLD, game textures will b e terrible.

Quite odd, the video they released still doesn't look as good as the Project Ego original screenshots. And the whole game never will.

You'll see these type of graphics on Xbox2 though. And hopefully the type of gameplay originally promised.
