And to be honest it's the other fighting games that have been dissapointing me lately. Take Soul Calubur - even in 2005 with SC 3, it looks a mere 5% better graphically than the original on the Dreamcast. And it doesn't even look AS good as SC 2 on the Xbox @ 720p.

Not again...

Everything I said is true. SC 3 is hardly a good looking game.

The enviroments in DOA are the best on any fighting game out on the market right now It's a nice fighting game but it's not the best I've ever played. Not to anger any diehard DOA fans but I view the game more as a casual fighter than a serious(overly technical) fighting game. It's not too technical like VF4 and it's not too shallow(button masher). DOA has a nice balance which is a good thing in my book. TBH my interest in the fighting game genre has been diminishing since the 3D fighters took over how I long for the days of Street fighter III: Third Strike. :(

I don't understand why some people are so hard on DOA.
Freudian slip alert!

Anyway, I don't think the appearance of the fighters is Itagaki's ideal. If it was, they would look identical in the prerendered stuff. But I think there's some quality difference there.

Not to derail the thread, but ahahahaha, maybe with DC fanboy goggles on.

Now to post something on topic. DOA isn't what I would call the pinnacle of the fighting genre, but they're damn good games in their own right. But tbh the whole genre is stagnant, its pretty shameful when the most fun fighting game on the market today is SSB:M.

Sure if has gorgeous half naked women as fighters, but so does EVERY other fighting game..... DOA just has more. ( Which is a GOOD thing IMO )

it's one thing to like DoA's women (which are hideously ugly)

it's another thing to like DoA's gameplay (which is very good as VF ripoffs go -- and online play, brilliant)

but if you honestly think SC3 looks 5% better than SC on the Dreamcast (and I LOVE the dreamcast - give me 4p power stone 2 any day)....

...put down the crack pipe, and slowly back away.

Well he's pretty much correct. SC received a slight polygon upgrade from the DC version and enclosed environments, but everything else pretty much stayed the same. The textures didn't get a big improvement nor did the lighting. Next generation I would expect SC characters to have much more detail considering there are only two characters onscreen. The lighting needs a major overhaul too.
