My computer has a sound problem

Hey guys. My power supply was burned up for some reason and I just bought a new one. I'm not sure what went wrong but after I installed it, the sound doesn't seem to work. When I click on Volume control, it says 'no active mixers are available'. I checked in the device manager and my sound card has that yellow exclamation point on it. It says:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

What can I do about this? :(

id shut down, take it out, restart remove drivers, shut down, put the card in a different slot, re-install the drivers

Remember to pull OUT the power cord out of the power supply and not just push te off button on the front bezel before you tear out the sound card.. (and wait around 30 secs or push the power button a few times to disccharge the caps in you rPSU)

There's still going to e power in the system unless you do this.

I sometimes forget myselfbut LUCKILY I've not burned anythign yet (touces wood)..
Peace.m

No, not if the power cord is the only source of ground in the system naturally.

However if you're hooked up to a peripheral that IS grounded (printer and/or monitor etc) then there's a good chance you'll still be grounded since you'd have a chassis ground in the VGA/DVI/USB cord connecting the two..

Anyway, just touch the chassis before sticking your hands into the guts. That'll be enough.

Peace.

Thanks guys, but I just decided to hell with it, and got a new sound card.

It's an Xtreme Sound 7.1 card. Now here's the problem. I installed it, the drivers and everything. Now it seems that I can access the volume and play my mp3s and all that. Now one problem. I'm still not getting any sound. The files are playing but I get no sound.

I have these 2.1 speakers, and I tried to plug it into the little ports on the card, but nothing works. What am I doing wrong?

Nevermind. It's working now. It just turns out it was a shitty sound card, and I had to put the volume up all the way before I could even hear anything.

You sure you don't have it plugged into the wrong port?

No, I tried it with every port and I wasn't getting anything till I turned the sound all the way up.

Also, somewhat related question to my current predicament, but how much RAM is good enough to make Windows Vista run without too much trouble? I know the recommended specs are 512 at least. Is 1 Gig good enough?

Yeah, I'd agree with Davros. 1Gb is "enough" for utilitarian use, but the sweet spot seems to be around 2Gb. I really don't suggest 512, as it gets pretty slow on startup... However, there is some dependance on how many things you have open and running too.
