Motivation for spoiling/leaking press conferences? *Spawn*

dunno if this is true, but if it is, this guy is totally wrong spoiling such an important part of the conference.

I don't agree but it does feel as though there have been far less leaks this year than last year.

Also if you think this spoils it, why have you re-posted it? To spoil it more? :???:

just to show how unprofessional that is. Does he need attention? Why? I mean, you are spoiling an important part of a conference without obvious benefit from others, and maybe you. Sometimes people should learn to keep their mouth shut. You wouldn't believe me if I shared all the secrets I know and I am going to die someday with

His profession is literally based on providing information to the public, either independently or under contract. The only way this is unprofessional is if he was given privileged information himself by MS directly and then leaked it. With the exception of that scenario, he has no obligation to keep MS's secrets nor should we as the public want him to.

Geoff is legit. He would not do this just to mess with us. He has his sources, but as always, things "could" change at the last minute.

It could be, maybe they have two price strategies one at $399 and the other at $499, they then test the water by deliberately leaking 499 and readjust according to the reception. I wonder if things like this ever happen in real life for giant corporate.

He specifically wrote on GAF that price will be starting at $499. I'm not expecting any cheaper option [until the next 180 reversal].

I'm sure they could do a survey or hit up focus groups for that.

In addition, it can even be expected by MS and they can even play their PR knowing such leaks.

For example, let's say Scorpio was going to be $650. If MS were to announce that at E3, the room gasps as everyone balks and half the audience walks away...

Now, if they leak that before hand the price, the shock is over. Then they can talk about it in the show and just get dumbed silence.

These companies know their press and work with them. The only time it's unprofessional to provide news, as said already, is when info has been given off the record and the journalist has been asked not to share.

If feel like if it was an intentional leak to judge response you'd do it weeks or months before announcement to analyze..not the day of.

most people's reactions aren't being positive, just from what I read. If you go with the message "the most powerful console ever made", the message could dilute if that's the price, the interest on the console could certainly fade quite a bit. Ideally that message is accompanied with a right price for the masses, despite the fact that they define it as a premium console.

We already know that though. The only way MS can diffuse the reaction is by talking value. That's easier when you're past people's emotional hump and they are listening sensibly. Otherwise it's, "$500 dollars and...no, wait! Listen! It's really good value, honest! Come back!!!!"
