I dont have the link for the report but you can find here some information:

Event: Mercury Research released the Q1/04 graphics chip market share on April 26. ATI’s total graphics market share decreased to 24% in Q1/04, down 1% sequentially from 25% in Q4/03; NVIDIA’s market share increased to 27%, up 2% sequentially from 25%; and Intel’s market shared increased to 33%, up 1% sequentially from 32%.
Impact: Slightly negative for ATI, and slightly positive for NVIDI A, as ATI maintained its desktop market share and lost 2% of mobile share (to Intel – up 4%), while NVIDIA gained 3% of desktop share (from VIA – down 2%, and SiS-XGI – down 1%) and maintained its notebook share. We note that ATI has reported its fiscal Q2 ended February, effectively
capturing two-thirds of the calendar Q1 market share figures reported by Mercury.

So it went from nVidia-25% ATi-25% to nVidia-24% ATi-27%, right? They were basically tied with market share and now according to Mercury nVidia has slipped a bit and ATi has gained a bit?

How big a deal are those 2-3% points difference? :|

You read it wrong way :)

Anyway you need to keep in mind gross margins for both companies when you compare marketshares.

Doh! That's what I get for trying to think again. Thanks for the correction. :)

No, Glaskowsky works for In-Stat MDR who publish the Microprocessor Report.

It's been pandemonium on the ATI Yahoo message board today as we discussed those market share numbers. It looks like ATI lost a bit of business to Intel integrated in the notebook space and maintained a stable desktop share. Meanwhile, NVDA gained desktop share at the expense of the smaller players, possibly through discounting of its 5200/5700 chips to clear excessive inventories as had been reported recently.

I was wondering what was happening with ATYT today....

Hehe....serves you right for not taking up my offer to join the Yahoo message board and relying on these techno-geeky B3D forums. ;)

It's kind of sad that 33% of the total market is made up of Intel Extreme Graphics BS. I played around with a i865GBZ a 3.4 GHz P4EE and the integrated graphics the other day ... UGH

Could one of you stock market types give me a thumbnail of how ATi & nVidia have been doing on the market the last month or so?
