I'll add that in theory, MAG could have been great. If there really was effective leadership and players following instructions to win or lose a fight, I'm sure I'd really enjoy MAG.
Well, in reality, a MAG player can succeed and enjoy the game without good leadership in his platoon. In many cases, I have no clue what the leader(s) did to deserve the win (He's all quiet !). My guess is individual players did their part to make things happen. I'd say just enjoy the game for what it is and try to execute your own plan (or follow others). If you play it enough times, you should know the map and typical team weaknesses to exploit. So the first thing is to learn the maps and the key military targets (How they change the larger game). The main problem is the game doesn't explain these targets well. If they want, the devs should also throw in more tools to let all of us coordinate/cooperate better. e.g. Remind the leaders to highlight their strategy during the pre-game spawn time.
One of the most important tasks for a MAG leader is FRAGO. But the mission objectives are already auto-FRAGO'ed. Once you figure out the relationships between the military installations, the rest is really up to you. I have been in missions where a team member flat out told the squad leader he's not doing the right thing and offered alternative solutions. It is also not uncommon to kick a squad leader. I have also abandoned my team and stayed to help others when I passed by their fight. Leaders are important, but don't forget you are your own master.
In an average case, the number of noobs in your platoon should be about the same as the number of rookies in your enemies'. The entry level MG is excellent without any mod (Some say better than the upgraded ones). So I think individuals' mindset and contribution will make all the differences.
As long as you have reasonable squad dynamics between buddies, you should be able to make a huge different in a land of the "blinds" and mute. I usually play MAG alone (You guys play less frequently ). So I switch my play style to fit what I think others want to do.
