Because Microsoft keeps pushing hardware technology forward. It's scary for some people. ;)

My tack would be that MS still to waste valuable hardware ressources on purpose. (Yet, I like the idea of using 3D acceleration for everything, what NEC engineers were evangilsing (does that word exists ?) in 1998-1999 when they were working with PowerVR)

Will Intel be capable of creating a DX9 integrated chip set by 04/05? AFAIK their integrated graphics are currently the worst of any chip set manufacturer.

Maybe not, but there's certainly a boot in their butt now to do so, which is why I'm so pleased to hear that Longhorn will actually take advantage of DX9 if it's available. One more reason for the low-end PC's to get up to speed with the rest of us. :)

....and now you have seen why I'm moving to the MacOS/Intel platform

Heh... You do realize that OS X is doing the same thing right now with Quartz Extreme right? Or did you mean old school MacOS? (and good luck with the Intel part with that!) ;)

Thats all nice and flashy but how does it help my using the computer ? :?:
Oh wait this is MS and all their OS is supposed to do is look good and flashy and not do anything useful

If you want an OS that does nothing more than execute programs and basic file system management, install DOS. Some of us actually enjoy having a nice looking interface.
