Logitech MX Air mouse - anything like it?

So the middle-click on my MX1000 died today (sad-face) and I'm looking for an alternative. After a bit of searching I stumbled over the Logitech MX Air gyroscopic mouse - reviewed at http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,2157604,00.asp. This looks like something I'd love, since I frequently jump from my PC to my TV, all hooked up to my computer.

The only thing that made me hesitate was its age - released in 2007 means there's probably a successor coming out in the near future, if not already out there.

So I went into a local PC store and to pick one up and they said they just sold their last one yesterday (!) and it's an end-of-line product now (!!). He suggested Ebaying but to me that means Logitech's probably about to announce something new here.

So my questions are - does anyone know what's over the horizon from Logitech in terms of a specialist non-surface based "media mouse"? If not, is there anything that's similar or better out there that you'd recommend for someone who's after a non-gaming mouse?

You can still find them new around different places... Newegg still has it for example, and greatly discounted since it's being EOL'd.

I have one and it's fairly nice. For gaming it's isn't quite as good as the MX1000, MX Revolution or Performance MX (awesome mouse, btw. But I miss the auto-switching flywheel :().

As a 3D free air mouse it works fairly well but it's difficult to click or even worse double click while holding the mouse in mid-air. Definitely takes practice and re-adjusting how you hold the mouse and how you click.

One nice thing is the touch sensitive "scroll area" that replaces the scroll wheel, functions similar to the flywhell on the MX Revolution and Performance MX if you flick it quickly.

As to a successor, I wouldn't hold your breath, at least not from Logitech, it wasn't a big seller, and I'm not sure Logitech even recouped whatever R&D they put into it.

Regards,
SB
