Laser light engine will finally hit the markt later this year

Yeah I read that news too. How is SED ? Is it really good ? From what I gather SED is is behind in PQ because of the suit. Is it really better compare to Plasma and Laser ?

The Laser at least made it out the door and from some reviews, it rivals Kuro. So for big screen Laser tech seems to be the way to go in term of cost if front projection is not viable for the room. It's 7k at the moment, but that is quite less compare to other tech on their debut. And I think Laser will drop in price as more companies adopt it.

Well I was thrilled about SED ages ago. DOn't know what the deal is now.

The laser view thing about watt in the link is totally bogus though.

Plasma power consumption is tied more closely to pixel count than screen size, whereas for LCDs it is the opposite, though they do need a brighter backlight for 1080p as well. That means the 1/3 and 1/4 comparison means basically nothing. They should have compared to a specific size. It is likely that the watt use of the laser view will also not scale that well with size, so it will always be around the admittedly very good 135 mark.

I have been looking and reading up on TVs and stuff in preparation for the Final Fantasy 13 release in March :) I was damn near settled on getting a 60 inch Kuro but now that the Panasonic is coming out with a lot less power consumption and then the Mitsubishi laser tv...*sigh* I gotta read up on this laser tv business. 65 inches of awesomeness it sounds like!

I begin to lust after the Laservue Mits, but it's still too much money for my blood. And our 4 yr old 62" 720p set still looks very good for most purposes.

The folks at AVS forum were saying the laser view was not the great there were sparkles and other issues with the PQ, they said it would have been superb 2 years ago, but now was behind so who knows... And I imagine you are correct on SED that it will be behind the curve by now as well.

Yes, I read about the problems as well. But it's only their first generation. We will see how much they can improve.

According to Samsung OLED can only be manufatured on large scale at 40" and that will be out in 2010. So I think there is some breathing room for Laser.
