KILLZONE Shadow Fall [PS4]

Nice impressions :) approximately, how long did it last?

Waiting for your impressions too , patsu :)

@blakjedi: you to got a ps4? you are also int he US? So jealous of all u US guys guys right now :devilish:

so? so what? have you asked anyone else with opinions on the game... including handing out or complaining about scores if they own the game?

I do not own a PS4 but I can describe everything from the feel and capabilities of the controller, to setting the console up to playing it on a 65" Panasonic plasma in detail.

Do I have to own the game to know how it plays?

You can tell us your opinion but how can you assert that the 8/10-ish scores that most reviewers give this game are wrong? All those professionnals and enthousiasts have been playing dozens of hours on KZ (have you?) but they are completely wrong?

Just look at the numerous reviews like Rockaman here who just gave a really positive 8/10 or the others positive reviews and user reviews on metacritic. Even Richard Leadbetter felt obliged to write (because lots of negative articles on PS4 were printed lately on Eurogamer):

Speaking from an entirely personal perspective, we've not yet sampled the entire launch line-up, but if someone gave us a PlayStation 4 along with Killzone Shadow Fall, Battlefield 4 and Resogun, we'd be absolutely thrilled: each of these games offers up an immense, high-quality experience that is simply unparalleled on current-gen console - and that's what it's all about.

I translate: "I disagree with the 7/10 Eurogamer's score and would have given myself this game at least 8/10)"

^One of my favourite levels is in those pictures @TEEDA posted :)

It's the one with the trains, they fly by you so fast and look so good with the object based motion blur :)

The first thing I did in that level was get hit by a train, and only when I revived I was like "oohhh that's what that was" :p

It's one of those open areas that is so fun, but they take you out of it too fast!

Also I totally forgot to mention, related to the levels being quite wide but also very vertical. That train level is quite a large game area, and there is a lot of climbing and jumping around involved which works very well. I was surprised to see any platforming in the game at all, but what they give is very fun. It gives the game a slight parkour feel, that doesn't dominate the game in any measure, but just feels like it adds another fun layer, they give you the freedom to decide if it's useful or not mostly.

The jumping mechanic is great, when you jump towards something and hit the edge with your body, the character uses his hands to plant himself and lift up, it works really, really well and is very fun :)

Even the MP has a lot of this vertical element, where you can climb ledges, like ones the height of your character x1.5, same as in SP.

@patsu @RenegadeRocks glad I could help you guys out really, I was very excited to offer impressions!

The game I felt was too short, took me about 7 hours, 8 hours tops the whole way through. Playing normal, not rushing through the game really, leisurely pace, but also wasn't actively looking for anything. Just playing the game to have fun and get through each level.

sp is remarkably boring and the storyline isn't compelling. graphics go only so far. a 7 is stretching it.

With a remark like that it's a given that anyone reading it would think you played it.
If you didn't it's like a armchair review based on nothing but whatever someone else thinks. If you did you should elaborate so you could add something useful to the thread. How long did you play, what fps games do you prefer, what makes the sp boring, etc etc.

I don't really play FPS' often because they give me motion sickness. 60fps helped.

Killzone is extremely pretty. I think the storyline of the Vektans destroying the Helghans homeworld then giving them half of the Vektan Homeworld as a truce is contrived for conflict. I did find the machinations of "The Doctor" intriguing.

it was boring in that I didn't note much technique involved in the gameplay outside of the use of the OWL for sonic scanning and area clears which I really liked. I enjoyed destroying the Cassandra and extracting the doctor.

just because my score doesn't match your chosen score doesn't make it less valid. I played the PS4 roughly 8 hours yesterday. I played injustice and Killzone.

I played to the beginning on stage five. that was enough fir the day. I may play more today before the Giants football game... or not. *shrug*.

A friend of mine has the same challenge as you, he used ginger as medicine against motion sickness. It worked, we played doom for hours on the psx via the link cable.

And thanks for sharing your views, I don't have a score yet, haven't played the game, just pre-ordered it :)

its definitely worth playing through once. again I haven't gotten past part five. I'd say that part 1 was the most emotional. part 3 was most engaging. I didn't really go so much for part 4. part 4 is essentially the pre-release walkthrough you saw several months ago. I agree that they make good use of levels and verticality throughout what I have played.

the train level was highly reminiscent of Ghost Recon: Advanced Warrior..

As far as AI I thought it was adequate not great. there were plenty of times the OWL will discover Helghast clustered together and I end up mowing the lot of them down together. also grenades seem to pretty much stick where you throw EM. even if the helghast see it they dont disperse far enough to prevent injury.

Thanks man, its a real problem. Racing games I have no problem with. Flying games, I have no problem with. FPS'... pure sickness...

I have the issues with some fps games. What sucks is you continue to feel the motion sickness for a couple of hours "after" playing.

He started with buying pills against motion/sea sickness, then hen bought some nature medicine, looked was what in that nature medicine, ginger, ended up buying some seasoning(sp?) with dried ginger, and ate a small teaspoon of that.

Crazy story, some of the most fun I ever had was with doom, the psx, a link cable and 2 guys with 2 old school TVs playing doom into the night.

Anyone have a link to the Prize drawing on PSN for KZ props? I searched the forums and cannot find that post and don't remember who posted it.

... and midget cam is back in KZSF. The protagonist's name is the same as my kid's. Funny. >_<

EDIT: Oh wait, I'm really playing as a kid at the beginning.

Missed the starting trailer. Sorry~

It took a while to get used to the height of the character at first. There wasn't a big difference in camera height between standing and crouching. eventually you get used to it.

Just watched the BBC program Click! - it's a technology digest program (for those that don't know). They have done their overview of the PS4 - Speech Control, Face Recognition, Cloud Compute. And they were pretty blown away by Killzone. 'It pulls out all the stops visually', but there was a short clip which caught me by surprise. It was a section in the forest that has been so overexposed to date. The camera panned across a small waterfall and onto the mist shrouded trees. The water looked so realistic that for a split second I thought it was a real world scene being used to highlight AR capabilities. Now that I like!!

Guys, please use spoiler tags if you're talking about specific areas or things that could give a way storyline plot etc. There are a lot of us who read these topics and have not had the luxury to have the PS4 launch here yet. Thanks.
