I think it was mentioned somewhere it's a very limited (possibly just 1 per turtle) run that you can't buy, just win. And the smell comes from some small addon piece

You can also buy those smelly add-ons from various retailers, including delivery to your door in under 20 minutes.
 
Actually, an add-on like that might make sense for VR in the future, as a way to heighten the immersion factor, but only if it can produce all types of odours, foul and pleasant.
