So where and what do (did) you do?

Hey, if you're looking to hire do you need someone with a M.A. in English who's worked in various MIS positions for the last seven years? God how I hate my current job. :p

If you're cheap!
Actually I'm currently looking for a "rest of world" international sales manager (Europe/Eastern Europe, Russia, Africa, S. America - basically everywhere but NAFTA and PAC rim) and an embedded controls engineer.

Most of our IT stuff is handled by the parent company (because I mooch, I'm supposed to have IT folks here too). What stuff are you familiar with? Our machines are all XPP and our severs are RedHat (fileserver), SuSE (proxy), Server2003 (webfilter) and XP (mail server).

What salary are you looking for and would you consider working in a steel mill? :|

Salary depends on the living costs of the area. I currently alone make more than the average 2-income household in OH, so. . . .

And no thanks on the steel mill. 8)

No, I'm not cheap. Easy, but not cheap.

Relative terms and all.
I probably cannot afford a full-time IT ("in theory") person right now, even if you could do some tech writing.

Our parent has an open IT Specialist position but it's in the UK...

I really was just joking around. Cinci is too far to drive every morning and the UK certainly would give Momma Reynolds a absolute hissy-fit (she wouldn't miss me, but wouldn't like me taking her grand-daughter to a different continent). And I'm about burned out on the MIS jobs and looking for a career change. Just what I'm looking for I don't exactly know yet.

Well Jeepers John! I assumed you'd take the baby's mamma along!
Cinti would be a bitch on a daily basis.

You should get into MIS/Tech writing for companies who outsource to people with poor writing skills...just a thought...

I had no idea companies offered poor tech writers for hire.

;)

What industries have you worked MIS in? I'm currently completing a 20 yr transition from IT Guy to Insurance Guy Who Won't Let the IT Guys Get Away With Anything (outside IT guys anyway! Our inside guys would never dream. Of course!). My experience is there are two kinds of IT guys. . the guys who care about the business units and are trying to serve their needs. . and the "I don't want to know about business requirements. . . I'm IT" kinds. I'm guessing you're intellectually curious enuf to be the good kind.

I was referring to my mother, not my wife. 8)

Tech writing positions I've seen open in this area don't pay enough.

Oops. Missed the "grand" part. Shouldn't write papers and surf at the same time, eh?

So you want to do international sales?

I was the IT department at a meduim-sized clinic.

But it's okay, I was barely making anough to pay the bills so it's not like I've really lost any major income. And, I already have an itnerview tomorrow. Of course, if I don't get a job then I can just sit on my arse for a while and do nothing 8)
