Nvidia CEO Jen-Sun Huang
"I have every expectation that we will be able to see final production silicon later on in the year," said Huang. "This next generation architecture took several hundred people several years to build, but this specific implementation of that architecture should take about 50 engineers. It's something we're running full throttle on."
Huang also said the PS3 GPU "is not about the PC at all," reflecting Sony's long-held aim of branching console architecture away from personal computers, a move it started with the PlayStation 2.
The PlayStation 3 GPU will be manufactured by plants operated by Sony and Toshiba and will utilise next-generation GeForce technology, work on which Gameplanet's recent visit to Nvidia's US headquarters revealled is well underway.
