Edit: These numbers are from Bunkum. He posted them on VGchart.org forum (which now appears to be down..). You can call them fake or real, but I'd strongly guess they're real. Bunkum has always been reliable in the past. He even gave dollar amounts originally (I removed them from my post, but it makes the more likely to be legit).

He posted them like this:

Wii $107,229,929 431,550
Nintendo DS $50,368,244 389,901
PlayStation 3 $167,704,647 288,636

Well, I called 300k for PS3 - so 288k makes me feel good about my powers of prediction.

Wow

Significant let down across the board. xb360 217k? ps3 < 300k? even wii <500k ... ick

You can always expect NPD to be below Pachter's lofty estimates. In this case, they're higher than I expected. 431k vs a 500k prediction on Wii is better than I expected.

Xb360 certainly, fairly slow..still not bad though, I have noticed 360 never dips below 200k, a barrier Xbox almost never hit.

Not nessarily, but if these numbers hold then the PS3 has outsold the PS2 and...wait for it the X360!

Yeah but there was still pent up shortage demand at the beginning of the month...

PS3's challenge will be the months ahead, with that high price..

The months ahead are indeed the thing to watch, but 300k is a decent number in and of itself for a Jan sell-through number.

Necessarily. The total demand in the US for the new PLaystation was a mere 850,000 units. That is most certainly directly attributable to the super high price.

If you're comparing to XBOX it looks OK, but when compared to it's predecessor, yikes.

Agreed...

The traction on that price will be interesting to watch but if they hold real good in Feb. then it should do well in march through may. June on up to fall is the looker.

yep.

Months ahead will be interesting. I figured sales for 360 would be lower but not that low. I thought at least 250k. Wii is still supply limited so who knows what the real demand for it is, but at least we see about what the demand is for ps3. Decent but not ps2-like. February should be interesting as supply issues should be 100% sorted out for Wii, DS, and PS3. Demand for xb360 is obviously known now ... I feel a price dropping coming guys. These numbers will dry up in the coming months (sans Nintendo) and they need to keep systems movin.

Prediction: Before May, xb360 or ps3 will drop.

xbox 217k.

Why would you expect anything more? How long do you expect a console to get by on its original retail price. I think its a good sign and a price drop will trigger additional sales.

ps3 < 300K.

I am under the impression that the PS3 is still fairly supply limited. While you can find the PS3 on some store shelves, a product doesn't need to be impossible to buy to show supply constraint. The ideal supply would have the PS3 on all relevant store shelves and thats not the case. Based on Sony's 1 million shipment to the US, less than 700,000 NPD sales figures for 2006 and this current data, Sony probably hasn't shipped any additional units to the US as well as japan in preparation for the PAL launch.

even wii <500k

Probably a case of still being supply limited but what does one typically expect from the Wii or any console for that matter in jan. 500K during the first jan after launch is a sign that the Wii still has a healthy demand and a production capacity that no other manufacturers has ever been able to establish so early in the life of their console.

Where you see "ick", I see pretty good under the circumstances.

Rangers.... ;)

Ugh, I thought these numbers were off the site itself, not a random poster on the site.

Ok, wake me up when we have confirmed numbers. As per usual, I'm still guessing in the ~300k range on PS3.

I just went to the trouble of calculating 360's sales % of core (based on these possibly fraudulent numbers) based on the dollar numbers.

~182k premium,
~36k core

About 83.5% Premium...

Maybe I'll do the same for PS3 later..

Rangers, this thread has a limited lifespan just so you know.

If nothing happens in the near future to confirm the numbers in the OP, it's going to be the right thing to do to lock it down for now. You will then be free to recreate or whatever else when the NPD numbers are confirmed; but right now it's sort of limbo-like in here, because discussion can only take place on numbers whose veracity is in question.

Yeah I understand.

I guess we wont know til Tuesday.

Oh besides that, if these are somehow "leaked" before Tuesday (assuming they're even delayed til Tuesday, cus really that's not a certainty either) then, these are probably basically illicit numbers. Unlikely NPD will ever find B3D, but anyway.
